Hayward's AAV: 4 years; 9 per

GVC always calls Gordon Hayward 'Gordo'.

I find it a little amusing.

Carry on.

I have faith in Lindsey.

Does anyone know of the Spurs "overpaying" for one of their role players in the years that Lindsey was at the helm?

1. DL was never at the Spurs helm (we was an asst GM)
2. You are assuming that DL would consider GH a role player -- I doubt that, he sees him as a leader.
3. Spurs paid Manu $14MM/yr at his peak. Does DL believe GH has Manu-like upside? GH certainly has not demonstrated this yet.

If you remove the key defensive pieces and #1/2's, you're left with:

Luol Deng (who may end up making less than $10mm next season, and is clearly overpaid)
Danilo Galinari (who is arguably a #2, and can actually create offense)
Eric Gordon (overpaid; can create offense and shoot better than Gordo)
Tyreke (see above)
Nic Batum (meh)
Rudy Gay (ridiculously overpaid)
Nene (a legitimate starting big)

Not a lot of great comps. Most of the other players you've listed who might get $10mm+ per year on their next contracts can create offense better than Gordo or fill a key defensive role. With players who can competently handle/create and defend, the added value of Gordo's play-making and defense is pretty minimal. You'd probably gain more signing a mid-level or less spot-up shooter than you'd lose from Gordo, before factoring in cost. Gordo seems to be stuck in no-man's land: Not a good enough lead and without the right skills to fill a complementary role.

I posted a few weeks ago that I expected Hayward to get Batum money. Numbers have a lot of similarity.

A sample size of 57 games is hard to ignore. Maybe what he is showing us this season is the "real" Gordon Hayward.

I think that our roster, his contract situation, personal life, ****ty coach, the tank, and his role on the team are all contributing to his struggles.

I think he will be worth 10 million per year once some of those issues/excuses work themselves out
