McDermott = Ryan Anderson
Ryan Anderson was a good scorer in Cal.I've never seen him play other then highlights but I wanna join in, how about a SF/PF version of Korver. So yeah a less athletic version of Ryan Anderson, I wanted to say Hedo, but Hedo had much better dribbling and passing skills ..... pssshh like I know what I'm talking about.
McDermott just screams mustache guy from Gonzaga. Morrison.
The McDermott/Morrison comparison is interesting. Both about 6'8", can shoot, can score, small schools, big time scorers their entire careers, neither is very athletic, etc. To put a positive spin on it in McDermott's favor, DM is bigger (Morrison was really skinny and that, in my opinion was part of his undoing as a player - if you're skinny, you had better be athletic) and while Morrison was a great shooter, he was more of a scorer coming out of Gonzaga, where DM is more shooter than scorer, which should work to his advantage as an unathletic SF/PF.
Just curious, how do you determine whether someone is athletic or unathletic? Other than, that is, the pigment of their skin?
Am I the only one who is getting a bit tired of this type of stereotyping?

For what reason, other than they're both white?
Oh, I dunno, - speed, quickness, jumping ability, strength, lateral movement. Doesn't seem all that complicated. Perhaps it is for some folks.
How much have you actually seen McDermott play? How much of what you've seen is filtered through a pre-existing set of biases?
I'm sorry, I'm just highly skeptical that those commenting on McDermott and comparing him (inevitably) to other white player (and usually white busts) are basing their conclusions on actual, un heavily filtered, objective knowledge.
Case in point, there are plenty of 'unathletic' black players (we still haven't defined athletic clearly), but inevitably the comparison goes to some white dude. That by itself suggests to me that stereotyping is at play.
You may be an exception, I don't know, but in general I'm very skeptical and am inclined to believe that what we're observing here is for the most part racial stereotyping and not honest, objective analysis.
