Donovan would be great, thought not sure how realistic.

I'd add:

Fred Hoiberg
Tony Bennett
Lionel Hollins

Next tier would be
SVG
JVG
Shaka Smart
Gregg Marshall

Alex Jensen or John Stockton

I like Alex Jensen too, I was talking about him with my friends and they all ripped me apart saying he was too inexperienced. But I think he would be perfect.

His teams had the highest defensiveness ratings in the NBDL.

Stockton would be amazing, but he would have nothing to gain. Unless he immediately turned Utah into a winning team and equaled Hornacek's immediate success in Phoenix, he would be looked at as failing and his image would be tarnished.

Anyone who thinks Stockton would take the potential of tarnishing his image into consideration hasn't paid very close attention to the sort of man he is. He would be my choice by a million miles over any other candidate. I sure hope they talk to him. Imagine how cool it would be for him to resume his quest for a championship. If Stock ever does coach in the NBA, it would be a tragedy if it was anywhere other than Utah.

The only way I'll ever get over not hiring Horny as a coach is if we hire Stockton.

I like the people bringing up Stockton, but, guys......that's naive.

For his name and legacy or because of his potential as an NBA head coach?

Stockton would be a horrible coach NBA coach IMO. Seems to soft-spoken and chill to do it. Like even if he actually wanted to do it, I don't think his personality would be strong enough.

I dont personally know stockton well enough to know what kind of coach he would be cause i havent spent much time around him.
I guess i will have to take your word for it

I didn't know there was going to be an election. Do we know if there is going to be a primary or a neighborhood cacaus?

I might want to throw my name in the hat for delegate.

Just doesn't seem like the personality that is hard-wired for coaching. Yeah, he probably has the mind for it, but I just don't see the personality. Seems like a dude who would be down for coaching his kid's rec-league team though.

Ya i agree that is true based on what little we know about him.

Maybe as a coach he get fired up and yell and stuff though.

Cy, did you follow Stockton much? I only ask this because what you're describing is the polar opposite of his character. You're conflating him being quiet with him being Colton (not in an offensive way). He's certainly not warm and fuzzy. His disposition is nothing like Hornacek's, which your description would be pretty accurate for. However, even he seems to be doing pretty well for himself as that would have been my biggest concern about Hornacek.

Do I follow Stockton? He does nothing of public interest at the moment, so it would be kind of creepy if I just followed him around hanging with his family.

I read his autobiography and stuff though. I've heard his interviews, I've watched him play. Just never gave off the coaching vibe at all. He was/is a quiet person. Not saying he didn't have passion, but he doesn't seem like coach material to me.

Teammates always talked about Stockton's leadership, humor, will to win, passion, knowledge, etc. He does not have an outgoing personality, but neither does Sloan. I heard Dan Patrick talking about Game 6 of one of the NBA Finals and he said that he was standing at the Jazz locker room when the team was headed in right after the defeat. He heard Stockton's son say to him, "Those refs robbed us." Stockton stopped and took his son aside. He said, "We don't make excuses, ever." Dan Patrick said he was blown away that Stockton could turn such an emotional letdown into such a powerful teaching moment for his son. He said he will always have mad respect for Stockton, and that he knows of many other national broadcasters who feel the same way. He said that Stockton never was particularly friendly to him, but he will always wish him the best in everything he does.

Do I think Stockton would be the best with the media? No, but I think they would respect him. I think his strengths would be in leadership, intensity, competitiveness, etc. It's likely that we'll never know, though, because I doubt Stockton takes that sort of a job even if it's offered to him. It would be so damn cool if he did, though.
