What's new

Game Of Thrones

dont mistake better. with ttaste.

for example i love the **** out of banshee.
but is it quality wise a better show than got?
HELL NO!

so how do we define best and better. quality-wise, actingwise or did it do something groundbreaking(like oz, or wire, breaking bad)
examples of groundbreaking: oz had nudity and violence, the wire had like no real main character but a city being the main charcter, and breaking bad turning good guy into villian(turning villian into goodguy has been done)

so if we go by taste
banshee imho in above GOT,
but if we go by quality GOt is lightyears ahead of banshee, same as with acting.

so when i say i can probably name 25 shows that are better i dont mean my personal taste. but i mean qualitywise/staying power.

everyone remembers star trek for some reason.
or twilight zone
or wire
or breaking bad(although bad example seeing as it is recent, but i bet it will be remembered)
or friends (note don't like friends, but should also list shows i dont like)
or sex and the city(also cant really watch it have seen a couple of episodes)
imho quality wise/acting wise/ doing something new those are better shows then GOT.

my point still stands GoT is overrated, due to popularity. if everyone loves show a for whatever reason it tends to become "The Best". The worl we live in is a popularity contest.

DJ, at one point you said you could name "20-50" better shows. I maintain that 50 would be a major reach. You're right that people tend to overpraise things and/or call them "best ever" too easily. But if you're saying 50 shows are better, then I think that you yourself have lost perspective and are exaggerating in the other direction. There's no denying it's a great show.

I think you should read it. I have read the first 2 books but I liked TV Series nonetheless(though it has been long since). I can't see why it wouldn't work vice versa.

My Favorite actors from the TV Series are Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister, Rory McCann as The Hound, Sean Bean as Ned Stark. There are also actors whom I think do a good job. Maisie William as Arya Stark, Aidan Gillen as Littlefinger, Peter Dinklage as Tyrion Lannister, Sibel Kekilli as a Shae and Hodor(of course).

Talking about other series my favorites are Spaced, Carnivale(though it has ended abruptly second season), Breaking Bad. Arrested Development and Black Books to some degree but I got to say True Detective is quickly becoming my favorite ever. Great characters, incredible acting to go alongside an interesting story.

Thanks for the advise, I'll take it. I had ignored the suggestions that tell me to read'em for a long time and I think it is time I make up my mind and get to the 1st one that has *sniff* Eddard Stark.

True Detective is killer. Me and my wife are about to watch the last I think, 8th episode tonight. It is becoming one of my leading shows too. I already love Woody but Rust is doing an amazing job. And again, as I've said about GoT, this one also has this atmosphere I was talking about. It drags you in. It's so professionally built.

I'll try to make time and watch the other ones you've mentioned. Heard a lot about'em. Curious and excited to watch.

the list of 20-50 depends on what do we see as "better".
better as in what i enjoy most eg i like bansee more.

or do we say better as in overal quality, then a show like friends which i dont like comes on that list

if we go on popularity/votes from imdb users(one to 10 voting system).
we live in a world where popularity>quality.
the internet has madeit so

https://www.imdb.com/search/title?num_votes=5000,&sort=user_rating,desc&title_type=tv_series
1.breaking bad
2.Game of Thrones
3.True detective
4.The Wire
5.Sherlock
6.Sopranos

game of thrones is second after breaking bad.
do i agree with that list?
anywho do you think breaking bad and game of thrones are top 2 shows ever.
also true detecive only had 8 episodes.

even though i reallyr elaly really liked the first season. does it deserve to be number 3 after only 8 episodes?

fact remains i think got is overrated!

My God, DJ, allow me to quote myself from a few posts ago:

You're right that people tend to overpraise things and/or call them "best ever" too easily.

So obviously I don't agree with the IMDB list. I agree with you. But let's not pretend GoT isn't really good.

"Average in quality"?

Sorry, I just ain't seein' that. It's way better than "average." Your own personal preference is your own personal preference, but if you look at the quality of writing, directing, acting, cinematography, set and costume design, etc., "average" just isn't an accurate assessment.

Do you like the fantasy genre?

If you do, yes.

If you don't, no.

My sister doesn't like fantasy, her boyfriend, or my mom. They all love GoT. Give it a shot kkk, even if you don't like the genre. It is slow the first couple episodes but it picks up. WAY up.

Thanks bro, I'll give it a try now that my 2 favourite shows from last year have gone downhill. (Once upon a Time & the Mentalist)
