What's new

1280 zone NOW!

Agreed, but it doesn't change the fact that he (and probably Marvin) should have been coming off the bench for the long-term interests of this team. There still are so many questions about this team that could have (should have) been answered since wins and losses were not the most important thing this year.

For his own personal success, RJ had a great year. As far as the Jazz are concerned, I think there's very few coaches in this league that would have played RJ over Burks like Ty decided to do. If they'd finished any better than 4th, the whole season would have been wasted.

RJ didn't play over Burks. Are you getting this from some anti-Jazz blog? It's not true in the least.

Wow I already didn't like you but now your really coming off as a dumbass. Did you even listen to the interview? Kanter praised the assistant coaches for like two min straight. Said that he learned a great deal also from Rich Jeff, Big All and Marvin. Esp Big Al.

Giving your opinion doesn't make you any less humble, but being afraid to speak your mind does make you a b!tch.

I'm glad Kanter had the fortitude to speak what the rest of the core were beating around the bush about. That's called leadership. Plus he did it in a very respectful way.

Troll on Frank, troll on.

Kanter was 3-34 as a starter (or something close, Core4 had better check the exact number and jump me for being one off...).

Losers aren't leaders.

haha. Nope, whether it's 3-34 +/- is nto a big deal. However, as many of us have noted; you have to look at other factors, such as what players were out when he started. Obviously there is a huge difference if the 5 spot is being manned by Kanter/Gobert or Favors/Kanter.

My issue is with major misstatements of fact like "RJ is the best 3PT shooter in the league."

1. No its not. 26min is 6th man minutes.
How many qualified players in the league played more minutes per game than Kanter? How many teams are in the league? How many starters?

This shouldn't be too difficult to understand. 6th men routinely get more minutes than 1-3 starters. Kanter got starter minutes.

This is exactly right. Anyone that is arguing the opposite has a specious position and more than likely a trolling position.
********. Bringing two of the young guys off the bench allowed all 5 young players to get lots of shots and overall (on-ball) offensive responsibility (been over this before; this is the first time in decades that a team had 5 players under the age of 24 who all averaged 10+ field goal attempts per game). That, and lineups matter.

I agree that Burks should have played more minutes this year, and Kanter should have played more minutes last year. Other than that, Corbin did a pretty decent job with lineups and playing time this season. His real failure was getting the team to play adequate defense.

People are seriously complaining about the burn that Kanter got? Geez. I mean you can maybe complain that he wasn't given the biggest offensive role on the team (a foolish complaint IMO), or that he wasn't played enough with Favors (a fair complaint IMO) but high 20s is quite good. C'mon guys. Especially seeing as how big of a sieve Kanter was on defense (his remark to Jefferson pisses me off quite a bit btw-- can't wait to have a new coach to set him straight).

Starting Jefferson? Not a huge deal. Jefferson playing more minutes than Burks for a good chunk of the season? Fair complaint.

Kanter gets more touches if he comes off the bench. Same with Burks. Think about how many touches Burks would have gotten if he started on the floor with Burke and Hayward and Kanter and Favors? You will guaranteed be stunting the development of at least one player, offensively. Burks would have had Jefferson's role.

I was very very okay with Jefferson starting. I liked Marvin playing stretch-4 (long overdue) but I didn't like Favors and Kanter not playing with each other. Rotation-wise, Ty had a decent season. No coach nails it down to a fan's liking (go to SpursTalk, or literally any other forum if you don't believe me).

Like GVC said, Corbin's problem was creating a defensive identity for this team. If we were basing his rep on rotation minutes, I would re-hire Corbin. Based on player development? Eh, 50/50. Based on defense? Seeing as we don't have any offensive hubs on this team, we have to build a defensive culture-- defense is something I would prioritize with this team. Consequently, I would never extend Corbin,. I'd spend time looking for a coach that could really set up a solid NBA defense, and get players to buy in.
