Lebron Saggin off AK

I feel the Heat exposed a major weakness for the Jazz. During the entire 3rd and 4th quarters Lebron just played free saftey for the heat knowing that AK couldn't hit a jump even while wide open. This killed the Jazz ability to go inside to Milsap and AJ. On top of that and atypical of AK his defense on Lebron was also laughable. All in all I am not sure if I would resign AK for any more then the 4-5 Million a year next year. At that price he could come off the bench with some of our roll players and hopefully provide a spark. If he isn't hitting shots you just let him rot with Hayward.

...End Rant

That's because Fes should have played. Too bad he is injured - he is the key

Seems to be a reoccuring theme with good teams. They make AK/CJ/Raja/Price beat them. (In past years like Sloan said it was make Brewer/Ak/Cj beat you. At some point you would think the front office would want to bring someone who can shoot.

I'm curious to see what Hayward can do.

AK seems to have reverted back to his old ways. Maybe a benching would reignite his fire?

Or heck, maybe Hayward might surprise us. I think it's worth a shot. It's early in the season and it's not like we're losing games with AK starting....

I actually agree with "The Thriller" might as well let the guy play or why waste a top 10 draft pick on someone you are just letting rot. If AK was playing decent I would disagree but seriously if you cant hit a jump shot get out of the NBA.

That someone plays in Chicago now.

Bell was supposed to be that guy. He is just starting to warm up.

Meanwhile, another ****** shooting night for Miles. If this pattern continues, I would'nt mind if the Jazz packaged Miles, Evans(or even Hayward) and a future pick for a solid wing

We keep harping on interior defense, but production/outside shooting from the wings is what that kills us quite a bit in the playoffs.

But here is a strange stat:

AK= 40.9% 3-pt FG for the season
but just 40.7% overall FG% for the season

Never happened before I think

At one point, a couple of weeks ago, he was < 40% on 2-pt shots but > 50% on 3-pt shots - so his overall shooting percentage of about 40% was greater than his 2-point percentage. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to maintain his Korveresque outside touch.

You should be more worried about what is happening to him inside the 3-pt line, rather than his outside touch which has always been streaky. 40% from 3-pt land is'nt the problem. Rest of his game is.

Have to disagree. AK has been huge for us at times this year with his defense and passing.
He has been making enough outside shots to keep the opposition honest - anyone complaining about 40% on 3pts is kidding themselves.

Unfortunately all our wings are streaky shooters and opposing teams can choose to leave them open at their peril or otherwise. Even Deron had a poor shooting night. - we'll have nights like these.
However if AK or CJ hit their first couple of shots then even Lebron gets chastised by his coach for sagging off.

The Jazz have MAJOR problems at the 2 and 3 right now. AK, Raja and CJ are ok off the bench, but none of them are playing like NBA starters right now.

I don't know if I would say major problems. We have always had this 'by committee' approach to manning the 2/3 and the players rotated through those positions all have unique skill sets.
If we did have a borderline all-star wing type we would probably be one of the top couple of teams in the league... and we're definitely not that.

AK, CJ and Raja are all capable of contributing as starters or off the bench. Just need to follow their roles effectively: play tough D, pass the ball, hit the open shots...

Hopefully if one of them is off, someone else can step up.

Russell + Hornacek? How hard is it to find a wing player that can hit an outside shot? Right now the Jazz's best floor spreader is Paul Millsap with his 20-footers. That's just not good enough.

If a trade comes along packaging some Jazz wing players and Memo for a legitimate NBA starting 2 or 3 (the Jazz currently have none), it'll be a great day.

I agree with Debbie Dootson.

This.

Raja has been ineffective all year long.
CJ has been our most consistent wing. Yet, he's best at coming off the bench in the long of a 7th or 8th man.
AK has been a disaster for about 2 weeks. we need a decent wing that can take some of the offensive burden off Deron. Someone like Ben Gordon, Jason Terry, or Stephen Jackson....

Pete Maravich? Darrell Griffith? OK, I should have explained that I was talking post-S&M-era, but whatever.

At any rate, I do think that given our lack of ability to sign/draft/trade for an all-star level wing our current guys just need to step up and play their roles.
Surely not all of them can go missing every night.
And who knows what state Memo is in when he returns, but hopefully he can provide some outside shooting for us.

Personally, I think we're not only lacking outside shooting, but another dribble drive player. while Memo can shoot, I'm not sure if he's going to create many open looks for others. What's killing us right now is that other than Deron, no one on our team is a threat to create their own shot from the perimeter.

You act like this is some kind of new revalation. People have known AK is not a consistent shooter for a long time and have sagged off him because of it. Nothing new, its just more apparent when a super star does it for same reason.
