Its been nearly 16 years since we've had a president not screwing things up and he was screwing everything. The hate on Obama is a little excessive imo, but I don't think he's done himself any favors.

You'll have to go back much further than that. Reagan screwed things up so bad that we are still suffering. Suffering from the failed trickle down economics (Aka, Voodoo economics), tax cuts which lead to huge deficits, the unsustainable defense spending, the privatization of our health care system, and the radical beefing up of the power executive branch. Literally, everything the right accuses Obama of doing (executive orders, taking away freedoms, buying off voters with phones, hiding conspiracies) Reagan did.

Truly, the last great president we had was probably LBJ. But even he had a huge black eye in the form of the Vietnam War. So maybe Eisenhower? FDR? TEDDY???

No wars, no risky policies, the economy was doing good. He was charming.
