What's new

deron should not play the entire second half

I agree with the original poster here. It's not like he had too many turnovers, he just didn't have what he needed to have in the tank to finish strong. He, much like the rest of this team, needs a spark sometimes to get going...and when we've come from behind and won, it's because Sloan puts in our high energy backcourt of Earl and Price and they get DWill on the bench thinking that he, himself, can step it up and get the win for his teammates who worked their tails off to give them a fighting chance.

I dunno, I just think we've looked better as a whole when Sloan's played those two guys together starting late in the 3rd into the 8-7min mark left in the 4th.

That does not mean it is smart. If Deron is tired and operating at 50% efficiency, is he better than Watson? I don't think so.

Also, to have any chance to go anywhere in the post season you have to have a decent bench. So you have to develop and trust them now, even if it costs some angst and a game or two. But ole Jer cannot think beyond the next quarter; he has no strategic thinking for winning a ring, just the this game. Unlike Popovich, who rests his starters toward the end of the season to get ready for the playoffs.

Wow. 2 bad games by the Jazz and suddenly Sloan is a horrible coach. Amazing how that works.

I completely agree with Dutch. I was supportive of letting Deron play the entire 2nd half in Dallas game because our bench commited easy turnovers, did not seem to be able to make ant significant contribution, seemed lost in zone D. Against HEat, maybe coach was not pleased with bench play. You would have a hard time arguing with that decision if you look at the contributions of reserves.

The Jazz cannot continue keeping Deron, AJ and Paul on the court 35-36min, obviously, but in order for them to get some much needed rest in games, you have to have reliable bench scoring, which our bench does not have. The 2nd units hustle, run, try to build a momentum for the rest of the Qs but unless this efforts translate to the some offensive production, it's difficult to build a certain sub. pattern.

Sloan is not "suddenly a horrible coach." He's always been a slightly above average coach and now has a heck of a tenure.

Every time Evans has come into the game, the Jazz have gotten an immediate offensive contribution. Somehow, that results in him being benched for several games. Also, we have other players that can play a few fresh minutes and use up a foul or two...

Maybe if you looked at his defensive production, you would understand why he is benched.

I have, and I don't expect a lot for four minutes of play. But a few quick points and resting a Millsap or a Kirilenko is worth it.

lmao

well for the 2nd time sloan let deron play almost the entire 2nd half
against dallas and agaisnt heat as far as i know and both have resulted in losses.

Glad you feel that way man, but it's not your call. If Deron doesn't think he can hack it, he can ask out of the game at any time.

first of all i did not say sloan is a horrible coach. i did not say deron sucks.
i just ,eam that when deron plays the entire second half it seems like he is running on fumes. so there are 2 options either deron gets his conditioning to the next level, or sloan doesnt play him too many minutes

until derons conditioning is able to take it sloan needs to rest him. it is a small sample size(dallas and miami game), in the memphid game he was fresh. or it could jsut be that memphis sucks compared to dallas and miami.

ooh really.

only lebron complains about too many minutes. true mvps DONT

In the playoffs and in playoff type games, rotations are going to tighten up and your stars are goingto get more minutes. That's just a fact of the NBA. If Deron can't handle it, he needs to hit the gym, because the team counts on him. And by contrast, as a team player, I would expect that if he thinks his extended minutes in these playoff type games is hurting the team, then he needs to do something about it by either A) getting into shape or B) telling the coach that he needs more rest. But I think coach Sloan has a very good handle on the conditioning of his players and knows what they can handle. If he didn't think Deron could handle it, he wouldn't play him. But like I said, Deron is going to need to be used to these extended minutes come playoff time.

The Jazz are at their best when they develop a set rotation. I agree, I don't like it when Deron goes wire-to-wire in the 2nd-half - particualarly in the regular season.

i agree but playoff there is MORE rest between games. games are spread out more. the schedule has been pretty tight so far in the season
