BYU NCAA Violations

To set the record straight, I don't need some major punishment for BYU in order for me to feel happy. Hell, EVERY school has stuff like this going on. I just find amusement in the fact that whatever was happening, it brings to light yet again that BYU is steeped in hypocrisy. All we hear about is the higher standards, the way Bronco wants things done, blah blah blah and at the end of the day, they're no different.

So, should one shoot for high standards and come up short? Or should one not even bother to aim high? Unless you're in favor of the latter I'm not even sure what your point is.

Colton, I am of the belief that BYU enforces their honor code standards when they have to. , not when they want to. Jimmy Mac, was a walking, talking, honor code violation his entire time at BYU, and he's gone on record saying as much. But guess what? He didn't play during the age of the internet and social media, so there was never any punishment handed down. Where is the "honor" in that? The "honorable" way BYU handled Harvey Unga, Brandon Davies, Spencer Hadley, etc. were basically situations in which BYU knew that those stories had already made their way to the internet or were about to. It's mighty hard to hide anything anymore.

You think BYU strives for moral excellence and comes up short sometimes. I think BYU has never been super interested in outing it's athletes for breaking the honor code but social media is forcing their hand more and more.

I'm too lazy to Google. What ended up being happening? Serious trouble, or Ute fans just being themselves?

This literally has nothing to do with Utah except for Utes fans pointing and laughing.

Utes fans being themselves? Nah, byu being byu.

Busby is a dumpster diver, tbh.

And what is so wrong about dumpster diving, hmmm?

Wow. Talking about Jim McMahon in one breath, but in the next you'll "roflcopter" and call someone "Uncle Rico" if they bring up the Gold in the trophy case. (lol, 3rd place) But seriously, you're so dumb, retarded people call each other "Jazzman12" when they insult one another.

Oh ya, I forgot that it was a Coug fan who started this thread, Coug fans throwing out all sorts of stupid, unsubstantiated claims, assumptions, and worthless opinions, and Coug fans who ended up (as is always the case) looking like morons.

Wait a second...

Looking at this from the perspective of someone who doesn't follow either of the major university's in Utah, it is pretty ironic and makes me smirk a lil'

That being said, I can get rid of the smirk and look past the irony for the right price. I'll pledge my loyalty to the side of the highest bidders.

Ready?

Go!

Helen is a Coug fan. Salty/green/jm12 are Ute fans. Probably best to stay neutral.

Helen Waite? That's who I tell Ute fans I'm forwarding their call to before I put them on hold and never pick up that line again. Had no idea she was an actual Coug fan.

Yikes, I would have expected this to happen at that school up north. But BYU?

BYU under investigation for violating NCAA rules for 15+ years. Free iPads, housing, etc...

Why? Despite propaganda emanating from Provo and LDS HQ, Mormons ARE in fact human and prone to the same temptations, foibles, vices, character flaws, etc. as all other humans.

Would you be equally surprised to learn that Mormons also (in large numbers) **********, watch porn, have affairs, cheat on income taxes, physically or emotionally abuse their spouses, treat their children with indifference, bully, lie, covet, are bigots and homophobes, etc. etc. Mormons are far from having any corner on virtue; the world is full on non-Mormons who have integrity, are kind, generous and honest and it also has a fair share of Mormons who are the exact opposite.

I grow weary of the self-congratulatory 'we're more moral than everyone else' BS emanating from BYU and LDS Church in general.

Great point, especially since Mormonism has been brought up so much in this thread.

Glad you got all of that stupidity off your chest?

Mormons > Science > Ute Fans

Gee, here I was thinking I was responding to a specific statement in a specific post, when all along (unbeknownst to me) I was responding to the collective posts in the thread.

Try reading for context next time before hitting send.

True. I totally missed the part where Hellen went off on non-Mo's, talked about how much better he was because of his religion, etc. thank you for pointing it out; I feel really stupid right now.

Just so nobody else feels dumb like me, I'll quote what thriller said and bold the bad stuff.

So you're saying...all mormons are evil.

So mormons eff up sometimes? I'll be damned! Whatever, as an active mormon, I guess I can buy that, but don't you sit in that chair and try to spew this **** about there being good people, people with integrity, people who serve others, outside of mormonism. Unpossible!

More like ---> Don't put the blame on the Church or school that call for high moral values when people mess up. It's the people that as you say are human and prone to temptations, foibles, vices, character flaws, etc... People are people and do stuff. Does this mean the Church stops calling for people to be better? Does this mean the school gives up and stops asking for high moral values even though they know some people/students will mess up and make mistakes? I don't think so.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints does not have a monopoly on moral values, good people, etc... just as non LDS people don't have a monopoly on any of the things the Church teaches we shouldn't do.

Why even bring all this up? What's your point? What does this have to do with the investigation at BYU?

Jazzman 12, do you still believe that byu is no different from any other school?

Yes and no. Let me break it down for you:

-Brandon Davies: Obviously, this kid would have been allowed the act of premarital sex at Utah, so once his fornication became public knowledge, he obviously still plays.

-Where BYU is no different, is the fact that a lot of students and athletes at BYU drink, party, and have premarital sex. Some is never discovered, and sometimes people look the other way.

I'll strongly maintain the opinion that BYU imposes the HC on it's athletes when the have to, not when they want to. Trout mocked me for going as far back as Jimmy Mac, but I do think due to the context of this argument, it's a very valid example.

If he was BYU's QB today, all it would take is one camera phone pic on the internet of him drinking, partying, etc. and BYU would have to suspend him. There a reports that Lavelle and others knew EXACTLY what Jim was doing in his spare time. They were able to keep it under wraps because information wasn't available with the click of a button like it is now.

I guess the best answer I could give you is that at the end of the day, BYU is much more similar to other schools than they'd like to admit and I think this Busby situation illustrates just that.
