What's new

***Official new head coach search thread*** (merged)

LOL at those of you getting uptight about the Millers in the locker room. They OWN the team. You act like a CEO has no right checking up on the business. Dropping by after a game to shake hands with players isn't undermining or interfering with a coach. If the coach is smart, he would take the opportunity to suck up; if you get Gail on your side, you can bet you will at least coach through the end of you contract.

And the Millers selling the team would mean the end of the Utah Jazz.

If a coach is winning, he stays. If he's not, you let him go. I don't give a crap if the guy has the people skills of Hannibal Lecter. And who gives a rat's *** about the Junior Jazz program? Utah has generally sent out rookies to go to the podunk towns of Utah and Wyoming. Send a bench player and an assistant coach. Heck, make it Alex Jensen's responsibility going forward. If what DL said is true...i.e. they're more concerned with a warm, fuzzy feeling than hiring the best basketball mind, then I say to hell with the Millers. Please, SELL the team before you become as bad as Dolan. This is the SINGLE most important decision in the rebuild. If you trust Lindsey, let him do his job. And frankly, I find it ALARMING he let this info out. Something tells me he found a great candidate or two that the Millers simply didn't like. WAKE the $%#^ UP, Greg! This isn't like hiring a sales manager for one of your dealerships!

Don't know bro, think you are getting real worked up about this for prolly nothin.

So the crappy ex Mizzou coach is the front runner?

Wow.

Mizzou couldn't run him out of town fast enough! I also remember his teams. Lots of 3s and 1 on 1 ball. Essentially the same crap Corbin did.

After 3 terrible years of Corbin the summer of retribution brings us...

Some crappy college coach and Aaron Gordon.

Ooof

Is it too late to become a Spurs fan?

You can leave at anytime. Why even say that if you don't intend to? Just Bizzare.

The Elite 8 is so easy to get to...

One small nugget of news and you turn it into some form of hatred for you team. This is your pattern. So it is time to leave rather than threaten...

The Elite 8 is so easy to get to...

In that case, why not hire Boylin? He got to the Sweet 16 maybe the Elite 8 and coached the #1 draft pick.

Mizzou couldn't fire him fast enough! And I remember watching his crappy 3 pt chucking teams. No thanks

what do we know about Adrian Griffin that we have not read in the articles? Is he going to be a good coach?

Of course they have the right, I don't think anyone is arguing that. But is it wise? If you are not an expert, hire an expert and then let them do their job and don't meddle.

Take a read of mellow's post about Lindsey talking about the hiring process. I didn't hear the interview, so I don't know what DL actually said. I also don't know if having meddling owners makes it more difficult to hire a good coach. If this sort of stuff is going to affect the quality of the hire, however, I'd obviously prefer the owners to change their behavior.

I heard a bit of the interview as I was driving home from work. Lindsay is a master at giving lengthy, coherent responses to questions without revealing a thing. From the part that I heard, my impression was that he was merely reciting a list of topics he covers while interviewing prospects. As part of the interview, he would naturally discuss all aspects of the "family" business -- including post-game visits by the owners and the Junior Jazz program -- so that the new coach would have a clear understanding of his working environment. I would think that how an applicant responds to this "revelation" would give valuable insight into the character of the candidate. I would assume that if the Jazz really wanted a coach who objected to the Millers coming into the locker room or his participation in Junior Jazz, the coach's contract could be written accordingly.
