Exactly. It's what he does and it's in his nature. To prove people aka haterz wrong. Which is why I like him as a player.

As a Hornets/Pelicans fan I watched Chris Paul early in career even at WF. He doesn't have top notch quickness or explosiveness. What he had was great handles, great ball-handling, crafty moves, length, good upper and lower body strength, and excellent body control. These are pretty much Trey's characteristics. While Chris was farther along in some of those and a few other attributes Trey IMO isn't far behind. So I certainly don't think Burke has a low ceiling he just isn't the athlete that John Wall is. Just looking at the games consensus two best PG's over the last decade Paul and Nash being that elite athlete really isn't the prerequisite as some like to think it is.

Jazz Fanz were so excited when Trey proved he wasn't a complete bust and could actually play in the league. Then reality hit them when they realized that even though Trey could play, we were over matched almost every single night at the point guard position. His shooting percentage was under 40% and he didn't penetrate and draw fouls near enough. Yes, he has the ability to improve, but he's not going to get any taller and he's not going to get any quicker.

We are definitely not a team that is looking for it's last piece of the puzzle to put us over the top, but if we can improve the PG position, I say we do it because if your over matched at PG, you're not going to win very much.

Like Kanter he was recovering from an injury. A broken finger on a players shooting hand where a pin was placed can be kind of a big deal to a point guard.

I would say body strength is one of those areas where Paul had Burke outclassed coming into the league and their respective benching numbers at the combine supports this ideal. Even then Paul only finished at 49% at the basket his rookie season. I think it's safe to assume Burke will get stronger.

Paul was a PNR heavy player like Burke. However Paul was given the offense from day one. Burke has mostly played second fiddle to Hayward as Utah playmaker this year. Which has prevented Burke from playing to his strengths. I would say this season the problem hasn't been Burke's inability to get into the paint. It's been his coach's unwillingness to allow him to by making him a spot up shooter in the halfcourt sets. As someone mentioned before in another thread Burke will never be a drive and finish at the rim in traffic guy at a high clip, but neither is Paul which they don't have to be. They have the court vision to drive and kick it out to open shooter, slashing wings, or open bigs. This was what made both players "special" leaving college. The biggest difference is Byron Scott let Chris do this the day he walked into the league and Ty Corbin didn't allow Trey to do the same.

Well he did shot very poorly period. Whether it be rookie or otherwise and I don't think all the half court heaves really played that big of a role. To me you have to look at two areas for his poor shooting (and somebody beat me to one). 1st you have to look at the injury to the most important finger on his shooting hand. There's no way you can say having a broken finger on his shooting index finger had no impact on his shooting %'s. Second was poor shot selection. Which IMO wasn't always on him. In fact if I had to access a % of blame on his poor shot selection 65% of it would go to the offensive system which saw the ball rotate to Trey late in the shot clock. Burke is and likely never will be the type of player that can just put his head down and drive into traffic and finish at a high clip. Burke is a guy that has to have the option to drive and kick to keep rim protectors and help side defenders honest. So Trey often settled for 3's and long 2's because he couldn't play to his strengths. You let him attack early especially out of the PNR and not only does his % at the basket goes up, but his overall shooting percentage and his assist rate.

are you suggesting that they didn't make it to the finals because they weren't elite athletes? Or are you arguing that their lack of athleticism deems them as not the two best PGs of this era?
