Video: Noah Vonleh Workout - Top 4 Pick?

All those skills you mentioned, he is ELITE at? ELITE?

He has elite handles?

Elite passing? His passing is elite?

Elite court vision?

Wing span is a skill?

I'm genuinely not trying to be a dick but I think we have a different understanding of the word "elite". For example, I think he's pretty good at a lot of those things but do not think he will instantly be one of the top 5 at any of those things you mentioned.

First of all, no one from this draft will be top 5 in anything immediately.

For his size, yes, all of those are considered elite. His passes are generally spot on, and he usually makes the right read. Etc.

For the wing, he is a mismatch to everyone but the few exceptions like LeBron and Durant, which make his whole package elite. NBA is all about having genuine mismatches. He is one. If he shot the ball well, and was the focal point of his team's offense, he'd be in consideration for the #1 pick.

Shooting form isn't broken. He had a decent jumper. Nothing like the other athletic bad shooter comps he's received. He just show his FT's different, which can happen because they are set shots, not jumpers.

At 18, he has an incredible grasp for the game. If he was perfect, he wouldn't be in our range. Jazz owe it to themselves to figure out if he has touch. If he has touch, everything will definitely come together for him.

Ok

I laughed as well. I think Sexual probably had shooting written there too, but after wrestling with it for a couple minutes decided he better not go quite that far.

Cute.

Let's compare him to the two wings going ahead of him. Out of the skills I listed, are either better than AG? No. Maybe Jabari on the boards. They are just better offensively, shot better and hit their FT's.

Jazz need to figure out in workouts and film if he has touch. If there's touch, they are looking at the steal of the draft. If there isn't, then they go with someone else.

Name 5 better SFs in the game than Parker.

Lebron
KD
Melo
and...

I think Parker can start from game 1 next year and be a top player at his position. His ability to score from anywhere is "elite."

I think one could make the case that Wiggins ability to draw contact and get to the FT line is elite too.

Make no mistake, this draft has some franchise players in it.

Parker will be great"

No one will be top 5 first year.

He still needs better D and shot selection.

Anyways, if we could get Parker, we'd get him. What's your point?

For the record, I've said before that if AG shot ~ 65%+ FT and had a solid mid-range game I'd very much look at him as high as number one.

Video honestly doesn't show much. For as great as his hands are, they are still only .25" longer than Kanter's, who a lot of you have already given up on. Vonleh is still very raw. I definitel haven't seen enough to consider messing w/ the Kanter, Favors & Gobert trio anymore.

I hope someone in the top 4 takes him, so someone who's a definite upgrade falls to us. If not, I am still higher on A. Gordon, or Smart for us. Smart is a huge upgrade over Trey, and would help us immensely immediately. There is also the chance that Exum is there @5 if ORL takes Smart.

When drafting players as raw as Vonleh you have to ask yourself if you have the resources to develop him. I think our frontcourt is already in project mode. There is a great wing and a great pg with comparable upside available. Both positions we could feasibly have resources to develop. Otherwise, you become the team where potential goes to die, and your assets never reach full value.

Good post.

The depressing part is that he's very raw, and we are ready to start moving forward now. It seems to takes bigs longer to develop too. We were so excited to add someone young, but someone that could come in, and contribute right away. Someone like Wiggins is raw, and still developing, but will still make a bigger impact than Vonleh. I think Wiggins a fast learner, as evident by his growth at Kansas, and will develop faster than someone like Vonleh in the NBA.

Basically, drafting Vonleh will be a huge let down. Should we head back to our caves, and come wake us in 3-4 years? Adding Vonleh to this roster does very little to help us make the playoffs in the foreseeable future. So what's the damn point?

Wasn't that impressed with the workout Video. Vonleh doesn't strike me as an amazing athlete like they are making him out to be. Also his release on his jumper seemed slow. I'll say it again he didn't score > 20 points once last year at Indiana. That stat is really mind blowing when you think about, I don't want the Jazz to spend a top 5 pick in the deepest draft in NBA history on a guy who couldn't score more then 20 points in a single for the entire season.

At this point, not even Favors is good enough to defend in the finals.

And you know this from his first season of real minutes, after injury, with a coach who had bad defensive schemes, and lots of other young and other bad defenders around him?

If you need more than 7000 hours to figure out what a player cannot do then there's something wrong with you. FWIW, the majority of this site were on the Favors defensive stopper bandwagon before last season. Now they've nearly all flipped, along with the local media.

You're so far behind the curve on this one it's hardly worth responding to. Kanter will never be known as anything but a defensive liability.

I hope this Vonleh hype continues so the Jazz don't have the opportunity to pick him, plus that would mean the Jazz would get one of the top-4.
