To think that a change in the laws governing marriage wont seep into education surprises me when coming from you. Education is politicized by teachers, for both sides, all the time. Why would this issue be any different?

Lawsuits on small business owners do not affect Mr. Public? Are small business owners not members of Mr. Public? Or did you want general affects and not personal ones?

The overall morality of America affects us all. I am not getting into what our morals, as a country, should be. Just pointing out that the overall morals of a society does affect the public.

What I meant was that #3 would be a change away from the special treatment already granted. Saying "I want my children to be taught that homosexual marriages don't exist/are not normal/etc. is asking for special treatment for their views.

Lawsuits only apply to discriminatory actions. Saying "I have a right to discriminate" is not a real defense.

I don't see how homosexual marriages affect the "overall morality of America".

Changing the legal morality of a subject will change the morality of the society. One automatically leads to the other

This current convo isn't about defending gay marriage or traditional marriage. I was just giving examples of how it affects society. It doesn't need a "defense". Lawsuits against small businesses are an example of it affecting Mr. Public in a personal way.

A change in the law doesn't create lawsuits; discrimination would create lawsuits. If you are saying the change in the law doesn't allow people to discriminate anymore, I'll grant that one as well.

I'm not sure what "legal morality" is supposed to be. We often, but not always, base laws on we think is moral; but we also make laws based on other considerations than morality and do not enact laws to enforce many parts of many people's morality. Making interracial marriage legal did not change its moral status for bigots; making gay marriage illegal will not change its moral status for bigots.

It absolutely can. But that wasn't the issue. Either way it lead to an affect on society.

So you think that gay marriage being legal will not change the general concept of morals in America (or anywhere else it is passed)? That surprises me.

But all I was doing is pointing out ways that it will affect "Mr. Public". That is something you have already agreed with. Thanks for acknowledging it.

i just have the opinion that it devalues, procreation. so when society starts to take procreation less likey it affects the whole ociety.
for example mtv teen moms, the more teen moms
the worse society is off.


so by saying mariage is for love and not for procreation, the view on procreation chances.


and yeah when somehting effects societie it effects everybody.

The reason for marriage changes from couple to couple. In mine it is for love. Procreation is something that is just a perk of my marriage but not the reason I am married.
