They get to fill the roster w/ who they want, the coaches they want, the system they want, and retain the rights for 3 (I think) of the players on the roster. The other players that they don't have rights to can still be called up w/ 10 day contracts, and since we'll have them in our system, w/ first looks at them, we'll know when they're ready before others will.

Also, the 3 we have rights to can also practice w/ our team.
 
I want to keep all three picks if the Jazz can't move up with #23 and #35 to select someone in the mid teens. If the Jazz don't want to have three more rookies than select a European player and stash him over in Europe. Like a guy name Inglis. He has a lot of potential but needs a few years playing ball in Europe. I think he is projected between #33-#40.

With the 23 pick I would look at getting a shooter CJ Wilcox, or a scorer like TJ Warren or Jordan Clarkson or Adams. There are going to be some talented guys at 23. I would rather do that then sign some washed up vet who might not be able to relate to younger players or might suck. With Quin, I am hoping that he is as good with player development as they say he is, if so, you don't need a vet. Beside the fact that both Hayward and Favors need to step up and show some leadership especially since they are/will be the big contract guys.

The Knicks are in that situation because they traded for Carmello Anthony. They had to leave the picks unprotected - much in the same way that the Jazz got Kanter 3rd from the Nets for DWill.

Superstar players and desperate GMs (here's looking at you Golden State) that ever get unprotected picks traded anymore.

I am curious how much Dallas wants to improve before losing dirk. Those are the types of teams I would want to look at. Also a little protection is OK.

2017 GSW pick is a perfect example of what can be had, but then you already knew that.

Most desperate team in the league IMO is Houston. I'm probably in the minority, but I'd bite that $14 million dollar bullet on Jeremy Lin's balloon payment for their #25 pick. It's going to cost them a decent asset to unload that albatross, and I actually think that Lin is a great fit to play for Quin Snyder.

Boston is in a great situation with Brooklyn. It doesn't look like they are getting much better any time soon.
