Aaron Gordon, a No. 5 Pick?

so if lebron was in this draft but chose not wirkout for us and we found ourselves in a position to draft him then we shouldnt?

take the best player regardless of if he worked out for us or not. if wiggins is there, take him. its a no brainer

I haven't been reading-- is this seriously a thing? People don't want to draft Exum if he doesn't work out for us??

LMAO. Jazzfanz is hopeless at times.

Yes!! I was wondering the same thing. Is it his tiny head? Something is off.

He measures like Derrick but Derrick just looks normal.

I thought this too. Reminded me of how I thought ANthony Davis's body looked weird as well.

I get a little tear in my eye when I see all the people I've helped convert to A-God.

Exactly. Is Jabari Parker going to work out for Utah? Probably not. Joel Embiid? Nope again.

Talent is talent. I'm a firm believer that the private workout is just a SMALL part of the evaluation process. Game tape is the #1 factor that you should always use. Players perform differently when they're not in a competitive game situation. A workout can give you an idea of where they are physically, but can't tell you how they'll perform under pressure. It's difficult to evaluate a player when the talent level around him is crap (like Exum) but it's still better than going off of the personal workout. Watch tape, have your doctors go over their medical stuff, bring them in for a workout and try to interview them (and anybody you can find who's coached or played with/against them.)

Jazz have some of the best scouts in the business. Let them do their job to compile the information and then pull the trigger on the best guy you can get with EVERY SINGLE PICK. Simple as that.

white chicilate doesnt want us to draft anyone who doesnt work out for us. (embiid, wiggins, parker, exum, vonleh)

he was specifically saying not to draft wiggins since he didnt workout for us

I think the only player that a non workout could hurt is Exum, and that's just because there are questions about PnR that his tape doesn't fully answer. W/ Jazz wanting to run upwards of 65+ sets of PnR a night, he'd be responsible for a lot of that. I think you have to answer that question after hiring Quin Snyder.

I want Gordon at 5, even a little more than I want Exum. If we could solidly answer his position question and put him at PG, then he's an elite talent/ prospect, and I probably take him. But, if he is a 2 w/ a struggling jumper, then he is still a good player, but I am hesitant because I have both Burks & Hayward who are good 2's who can handle the ball, create for others, but have struggling jumpers. Burks & Exum have identical measurements, w/ Burks being heavier.

The workout doesn't show much, but it can tip the scale. They aren't held for no reason.

Now if anyone from the top 3 were to somehow be available, you take them in a heartbeat.

Great post. In this instance, no workout means that you have too many questions vs. another prospect. Not just because he didn't want to work out for a non-top 4 team. Hopefully, he goes out there and absolutely kills the workouts with the top 4 teams. Even if he busts completely like Darko, the only reason that the Nuggets even had a shot at getting 'Melo was because of that workout. . . I can live with Exum going early and pushing another guy down the board.

Lol check out the the thread with Dante Exum at #5 in Chad Ford's latest mock. I am just mocking the people who are saying that.

Few things:
1. If I am Vonleh and I'm a tad out of shape, as rumored, the last thing I do is work out in Salt Lake City at altitude. All workouts at sea level.
2. I like Gordon, but in fairness, shooting well in drills has never been a problem for him. It's quite possible that he shooting hasn't improved it's just that he isn't playing game speed so his percentages are higher.
3. The MWC conference In Kawai's last year was certainly NOT a weak conference.
4. I'm beginning to think more and more that the Jazz draft Randall, and I can't even give you a reason.
5. For that same reason, I think that 3 years from now people on this board are going to be screaming that we didn't draft McBuckets, although absolutely no one, myself included, is going to pull the trigger on that today.
6. I like Gordon at 5, but I take Exum if he's there because I am positive you could get another club to overpay for him before the season starts. Trading him for a young proven vet would be a very good thing for this squad. I'll bet you could also pry both of Boston's first rounds for it and get Gordon and a shooter. Or even trade Exum and pieces to Philly for Parker. Exum is just a more valuable chip, if not a player.
7. I still think you could get SacTowns #8 by springing them from salary cap hell.

Walt Perrin the Jazz scout said that Gordon's shooting has really improved from last year. He has scouted him extensively.
