What's new

Isn't there a clear difference between Dennis Lindsey and Kevin O'Connor ?

When Lindsey first got hired I was skeptical that we got a new GM. I thought, what's with this co-gm crap, nothing is going to change. I've never liked KOC's style. I've always thought he was a poor judge of talent and far too conservative. The cynic in me thought that the flavor just wasn't going to change.

Not re-signing Corbin has finally convinced me that we have a new GM. I know a lot of you are thinking what took you so long. Well, I just thought it was weird that KOC hired his replacement and wasn't going to GM anymore. It seemed to come out of nowhere. Does anyone even know what's going on with him? He wasn't at the Snyder press conference I don't think. I wonder if he has become ill or something.

Anyways, I'm more excited than ever for this franchise and think that it's going to be a lot funner as a Jazz fan in the future. I think the conservative days are over. I think if Kevin O'Connor was still running things then Corbin is still the coach, the GS trade never happens, and the Burke trade probably never happens. If Lindsey was in charge of the Al era then Al would have been traded before he left. I think there is a huge difference in styles between the two. What do you think?

This all leads me to believe that the Jazz will be aggressive with some more moves coming here soon. It won't shock me to see us make a big move on draft day and possibly a big move in the off season.

With Dennis Lindsey I feel like his view of the team and direction is more in tune with what like and do. With Kevin O'Connor, I had no idea Wtf he was doing and hated everything he did and didn't do.

Here are my short term predictions for the team and what I would do. I did predict the GS trade with stunning accuracy, so I might get this right too.

Order of things I'm doing if I'm GM

1. Try your *** off to trade up for Jabari or Wiggins. I think Lindsey tries, just might not be able to get it done.

2. Draft Gordon. I think Lindsey will like him and will select him over the rest. If not then I could see a trade out of the pick because we don't need another power forward or point guard.

3. Trade Kanter before the season starts. I like Kanter, but not enough to think he is untouchable and he is the odd man out imo. Part of the reason why is that he will have to be extended soon, and I'm not sure that paying him right now is the right decision. And I just don't see Hayward, Burks, or Favors going before him. I would like to see us trade Kanter at draft time and get us back into the draft. I would love to see Kanter traded to get Stauskas and Warren if possible. Obviously don't trade him just to trade him though. Get something nice for him.

So trade Kanter for Nik Stauskus.....

Thank God you are not our GM.

And thank god you aren't. I said Stauskas and Warren. Obviously I'm not trading Kanter for just Stauskas. I'd want a couple things for him.

Thanks for seeing what you want to see mister king if terrible threads.

TJ Warren? How are you going to trade one player(Kanter) for two seperate 1st round players? Also why trade for Warren if you can just draft him with the 23rd pick?

multi team trade

Warren is going before 23

Nope you are too smart for me. A person who would trade a young skilled 6'11 big man that was 3rd pick in the draft for Nik Stauskas and a late 1st round pick is clearly a genius.

Yes, but I think the directive from the top is much, much different.

I don't know that you can criticize KOC for being too conservative. Show me one other team that lost their superstars and were back contending so quickly. Chicago, Boston and LA all had several losing seasons after Jordan, Bird and Magic left. KOC took huge risks on bringing in Okur and Boozer as unproven youngsters just coming off rookie contracts. He deftly moved up in the draft by fleecing Portland to acquire Deron. Through the Larry H. era, the mantra was to reload and stay competitive, not rebuild. The Jazz were oh so close...had AK just worked a little harder, had Boozer cared just a tiny bit about defense. WC Finals and then a decline. I think it took a few years before it was evident that combo wasn't going to grow into something special together. Heck, someone was always hurt during most of that time. So fast forward to the unwind. First task was getting rid of Boozer without completely alienating Deron. In comes Jefferson, who Deron immediately calls and tells he'll make him an all-star. It was worth the risk, IMO.

And then it all goes to hell when Deron won't commit to staying. Read interviews with Lindsey or Rigby. They'll admit that was the point at which a rebuild started. The rebuild began with KOC, but his hands were tied a bit with big contracts. However, the decision had been made to forgo trades if it meant taking on longer-term salaries. And then the Jazz faced a crossroads in 2013: go completely with youth or retain players like Millsap, Carroll, Foye and Mo and try for the playoffs. By some accounts, there was a big divide in the Jazz front office. But Lindsey won out.

KOC rebuilt the team once and I give him HUGE credit for preventing the team from sinking into an abyss like almost all do when their superstars retire. And I give Lindsey HUGE praise for continuing this second rebuild that KOC actually started. I think Lindsey has made some real positive moves. And KUDOS to the Millers for accepting a couple of losing seasons as the price for starting anew.

That does not sound as bad as you think it is. Stauskas will be great. Kanter is still enigma.

What? He averages 12/8 on 50% shooting. He is young and hasn't even touched his potential. You are going to give up on a young big man that will average 20/10 for Nik Friggin Stauskus?

I would trade young skilled 7 footer nr 2 pick for Stauskas in a second given a chance ( if you know which 2d draft pick I am talking).
How high player was selected has nothing to do with his value. Do you think Kanter would go as high now after we had seen him for 3 years in NBA? T.Thompson, D.Williams, Kanter, Vesely, Byombo - all this guys would not go where they went. They were all overvalued prior to the draft. While Valanciunas, Klay Thompson, Walker, Leonard, Vucevic, Parsons would certainly be selected higher.

Kanter is not going to average 20/10. His defensive limitations won't allow him to stay on the floor enough to do that. And since when 7.5 is 8?

So for fun I was trying to guess the Jazz picks if KOC was in charge, vs who they will pick with DOL in charge. Trouble is I still don't know enough about DOL to guess what he will do.

My biggest question for the draft and the offseason is how does DOL value the KOC players Burks and Kanter.

You aren't looking at the big picture. You have to be able to look down the road and see how these contracts could play out. If you don't then that's how you lose assets for nothing.

Lol are you messing with me? Nik Stauksas sucks at defense and is slow as mud. You really want him guarding starting 2 guards in this league?
