You called it.

Notre Dame's gotta change their "Fighting Irish", same with the Cowboys, Celtics, Dodgers, Giants, Steelers, Packers, Cardinals, Saints, Angels, Knicks, TeaBaggers, Libs, Gays, Guys, and Girls. Since we've accepted the idea of government-regulated language and thought police, we all just gotta shut up. Somebody's gonna feel hurt at anything anyone says. Somebody's gonna hate anything. Somebody's gotta make us all good.

Red Man used to hate Paleface, but they could still sit and smoke Peacepipe while lying to one another and making cheating treaties. But at least the redskins had pride in who they were.

And at least we respected them enough to think their name was neat.

Go Utah.

I never understood this complaint. I mean, what is one saying when they say they hate PC? Do they want to be able to call black folk, *******? Do they want to be able to call women, broads? As someone who is against PC is your preferred name for hispanic folks, ******* or ****? Or let's say our middle eastern brothers and sisters? Camel jockey?

Hey babe, explain it to me.

apparently, you follow the mantra "sticks and stones don't hurt at all, but words will always slay me."

people are always gonna hate somehow, and like somethings as well. It's called freedom.

In a court of law, words can do more damage to life, liberty, or property than guns, but ultimately the government power is enforced at gunpoint. Might be holstered on the hip of cop, but the point of it is the same. Ordinary folks don't have the right to use guns to take stuff from others or kill them like governments do.

But ultimately, anyone who wants personal rights has gotta stand up for the rights of others to think, say and do stuff that's "not approved" by government. It's gonna end up bad for every ethnic grouping, every racial grouping, every political grouping, every conceivable grouping of individuals if we put the power in the hands of government to regulate thoughts, speech, or action in our personal interest.

I'm not a big hater, I just see us being divided and regulated into feudal liege status with no actual rights.

You're feelings are hurt? Curse those negative emotions!

I agree, let's get rid of anything that can possibly hurt anyone's feelings. Matter of fact, let's remove any accountability an individual has for his/her life. Let's give everyone a bean-bag chair and TV so they can have a front row seat to watch people spend more time affixing blame than solving problems.

What's this weeks military skirmish? Have a seat in your beanbag chair and find out!

People that are upset that people are upset about the name "Redskins" are ****ing turds. It's an easy call.

It's fun when there's a 'controversial' issue like That Duck Dynasty ******* being an ******* or Paula Deen being an ******* because then I get to clearly see who the dog-**** people are.

This will truly alleviate the guilt of the white man for any past discrimination of Native Americans.

I, for one, feel comfort in the fact that the white male will take your land, destroy your culture, create a football team, but will avoid calling that team by a name they deem racist. This is certainly the proper place to draw the line.

I concur. As a white person, I gotta say, we're pretty much the worst race there is. I mean, we're civilized and all. But only if there's money to be made and things are on our terms.

Please reference the time and place that people were called "Irish" or "Fighting Irish" as an insult or the terms were used to denigrate.

Same for the Cowboys, Celtics, Cardinals, Dodgers, Giants, Steelers, Packers, Cardinals, Saints, Angels, and Knicks. I'm not aware of any sports teams called the TeaBaggers, Libs, Gays, Guys, and Girls, and I would object to four of them being in a team name.

Since we've accepted the idea of government-regulated language and thought police, we all just gotta shut up.

The NFL gets generous anti-trust exemptions; some oversight goes along with that.

Red Man used to hate Paleface,

Which team is the Palefaces again? Is that a team name in Utah?

Wait, you're saying they don't pick insulting terms for white people as team names? How about that!

Thank you for making it clear that you don't care if we institutionalize pain.

I'm just happy that we've solved all the major problems of this country and now congress can waste time on this...

Eventually Snyder will die, right? Or eventually, he'll have to change it because so many won't by his racist team stuff, right?

its making fun of irish peoples penchant for drinking and acting uneccessarily aggressive towards others.

its totally denigrating and needs to be changed.

(honestly, idgaf)

I've never seen it used in that context. Can you provide an example?

Can't even believe there was a team named Redskin to begin with.

Can't even believe there was a team named Redskin to begin with.

The early 20th century wasn't exactly known for its racial sensitivities.

I'm for changing the name. I always found it bizarre it was allowed in the first place, and believe it only exists because the Natives themselves haven't made a huge uproar about it. I think most of that is due to their lack of numbers (on a population basis) and lack of media presence they have.

I'd be pissed if I was Snyder because I'd feel like I'd be losing one of the top 10 (?) brands in sports, so to speak. That said, I'd also recognize that by changing the name, the merchandising profits that could be made over the next few years could be record-setting and that in due time, these unfortunate days will be long forgotten and a new nickname likely embraced.

I've never seen the term "Redskin" used in a derogatory context, and I'm willing to bet that 95% of the people here haven't either. If the team was called the "Indian Casino Lords" or "Washington Drunk Savages", then I could see a point.

Does this mean my favorite rugby team is doomed?
