What's new

Aaron Gordon was in SLC today....

I've said it before -- I will be surprised if the Jazz take Aaron Gordon in this draft. They're looking for a #1 option scorer, not a complementary defensive player.

The fact that the Jazz brought him back for a 2nd workout looks to me like they're using him as a smokescreen, showing other teams that they're very interested in him and thus increasing their leverage in a trade scenario, or head-faking another team that likes him.

What exactly do the Jazz need to see in a second workout that they didn't see in the last one?

Bet they planted that worker there too. They made sure he would meet Gordon and take a picture with him.

You aren't going to learn everything there is to know about a prospect from one workout. Why would bringing him in again hurt?

The smoke screen talk gets exaggerated. They're legitimately interested in him. It's either him or Vonleh if they can't move up.

Would teams really pull smoke screen stunts on players?
If they or their agents find out that seems very risky.

I don't think Utah plays the smokescreen game as much as they just keep their mouths shut about what they are doing. Everything you hear about them is either speculation or 2nd/3rd rate reporters fake reporting.

Two words.

Asset Accumulation. If Gordon is the best talent and will have the most long term value, then you draft him. This line of think also leads up to trading up at almost any cost. Personally my preference is to trade up for Wiggins and give up 5, 23 a future 1st and Kanter. But if it takes Favors to get it do we have to trade him.

Agreed. If Gordon has a shot, or high confidence he can develop to NBA levels, then he's on par with Wiggins. He's already a better defender and arguably a better passer. Gordon probably has an edge in ball handling.

My guess is Jazz saw improved shooting last workout. They probably wanted to see if that was a fluke or if there is consistency there.

This.

Also shooting within the run of play, against competition, etc.

They wanted Gordon to come in and meet his future teammates and coaches, look for an apartment, etc.
