This is why sports is out of control and why sports keep average americans away from going to the arena. What has Hayward done to get a 11 million dollar raise especially after this past season. If this is true the Jazz front office should wish Gordon well and start looking at Parsons, Ariza or other options. There is no way Hayward has earned that amount of money and there is no way the Jazz should pay that amount.

Seriously, you make it sound as though the Jazz are the Clippers. I know it is hard but rebuilding the right way takes time. You don't just pay average/good players MAX money because you might have to spend an extra year in the lottery. I would rather spend 1-3 years in the lottery than another 25 years battling for 8th place.

The problem with this thinking is the supposition that giving Hayward this deal would hurt us in any way. The cap is going up every year, maybe as high as 80 mil after the TV deal. If his deal is four years, it will be up when time comes to extend Exum. It in no way hapers us trying to extend our other players. Unfortunately it is just market price for someone with his talents this year. Jazz should have done the deal last year instead of waiting.

Yes it does. It sets the price for other guys on the Jazz. Burks blows up this year do you think he is going to be happy making less than Hayward. You don't EVER give MAX money to a role player.

Why would we let a player go that deserves a max contract.
Pay guys what they deserve, or just a little bit more (or less if you can). Its that simple. Don't over pay by 25 million dollars. That is always a bad idea.

Last night Locke was saying how Gordo does not like Cleveland at all and is on record of making many disparaging comments about the team and city. Locke said he'd be shocked if Hayward went there.

The way this works is that Hayward's agent could show the caves offer to the jazz before gordon signs it and the jazz could make an offer (could be 5 yrs gir more total guaranteed money, less per year) and Hayward could choose to sign the jazz offer (in which case it's done) or the caves offer ( in which case the jazz could match)

Neither of those players are better than Gordon or make the team better in any way. It's not even a sideways step. It's a step back.

This makes little financial sense for Hayward because he's giving up a year of free agency. At the end of a 4 year MAX he's 28 and signs a second MAX deal at a much higher number in year 5. In the Jazz scenario, he's making substantially less in year 5, and he's 29 looking for his next MAX deal.
