Your entirely missing my point about the new CBA, Billy. It is just not as drastic of an error to "miss" on a max guy as it was under the old CBA.
Again, I DO NOT want to have Hayward at the max, but it is literally not possible for the contract to be an albatross because of the new CBA and the low risk (also low reward) of Hayward as a player.

I completely understand your point, and I agree that the new CBA helps to protect teams from themeselves as far as albatross contracts go. But just look at Detroit. One year into the Josh Smith deal, and he's untradeable. Then Monroe played himself into a Max player. And Drummond's RFA will come up with Smith still on the payroll. So that Smith contract is already turning into an anchor.
Here's the second issue. The Smith deal isn't an old school Arenas Albatross, you're right. But now they have zero margin for error. The next high dollar guy they sign better produce, or they're basically the JV of the NBA until they get those contracts off the books.
At Hayward's current production, he's untradeable the second he inks a Max deal. He only becomes tradeable once he starts to produce at a higher level. And, even though people can't seem to imagine this, he could actually get worse.
