Unlocking an iPhone?

Mrs. Wells and I have iPhone 5c's with T-Mobile as our carrier. I have been with them for over three years and have really liked them. However, as anyone who has ever tried to call or text me knows, their service in good ol' Hurricane is absolute trash. I'm in the process of moving over to Verizon but tmobile is making me pay off the phones before they'll unlock them for us to use on Verizon's network. Lame. I only owe them $300.00 for both, but I'd really rather not have to fork out the money in order to use my phone. Something about it feels ********, like extortion or something.

I did some googling about how to unlock the iPhones, but most of it seems like a scam. Is it possible even? Does anyone have any real experience with anything like this? Any recommendations of sites or software? I knew better than to buy an Apple product; I'm reaping what I sow.

Where is Salty when we really need him? Maybe if I use a few buzzwords he'll come running?

First mistake, apple. There is no hope. You can jailbreak the phone but with Apple that's a 50/50 shot of ending up with a pretentious paperweight.

It's a code that goes something like the old Nintendo codes:
up, down, up, down, b, a, left, right, select.
Something like that.

Have you asked your carrier if they offer any sort of internet microcell. I know for customers of AT&T, if you live in an area where there is poor reception, they offer some sort of wifi/ cellular station that gives your phone a signal. For whatever reason, a lot of times, the carries are not forthcoming with the information.

Here is AT&T's:

Could save you some money. Most folks, if they complain enough, will get the MC for free. It might save you a pretty penny.

Tried that. I was told that iPhones don't have that option at all, regardless of carrier.

Hmmm, maybe tmobile is TDMA and not GSM. Might have to do with the network that tmobile uses. That makes sense. In respect to unlocking the phone, I know there are myriad shops out here that will unlock your phone if you're going abroad for a nominal fee. There's has to be a similar place in Riverton.

You could ditch the apple crap and get a real phone.

Wait a second, the $300 is to unlock the phones or because you're ending your contract early? Please advise.

Don't AK this. Accept that you made a poor decision and offload the contract in trade for some high ceiling late first early second round draft picks.
