The kicker is only really relevant in the 4th year of his contract when he has 7 years of service and will be eligible for 30% of the cap. Until then, the cap has to go up very much for his kicker to have any real impact. I have to say that Hayward`s agent has played this one beautifully. If Hayward never gets to another level, he has the four year max. If he really makes it, he can be a free agent just in time to be eligible for the 30% salary.

I was surprised when I looked it up at Sham Sports and saw 30+ players have trade kickers in their contracts and most are 15%. If Hayward really, really wants to leave SLC he can agree to adjust or waive the kicker. Probably a non-issue since he just opts out in 3 years. This arrangement is pretty common. Remember, both Deron and CP3 took shorter contracts after their rookie deals. Paul George didn't have too because he was given a maximum 5/30% extension.
I responded to this in another thread, but there is no way he opts out in three. Unless he magically becomes much better than we all know he is.
Agreed about him waiving the trade kicker.
