What's new

A tiny bit of inside info

Go to agree with NC. Locke has been talking about the Jazz's added emphasis on scouting for a while now. Not exactly inside info or anything, though it is cool that we are actively trying to take top scouts out of the freelance game.

What a joke..Every team tries to be like Spurs.. you call this info? Next thing is your info will be the Jazz are looking to win a championship...

I was gonna ask why your rep level was so low, you just answered my question with your arrogant post. How about you bring something better to the table rather than just bitch and complain?

This is how I picture PKM and ncjazz. PKM has the glamorous life; ncjazz is bitter because he got the short end of the ugly stick.

We don't need to stalk 20 useless draft picks. We need good medical staff like Phoenix and a training coach who will demand players start working out like a real man. No more beach vacations to P3. I want Karl Malone training regiments for our existing first round players not more more more second round throw always.

Just what I would do if I had a team. I would invest in scouting big and make it one of the top priorities. And I would do all my scouting on really really long terms, not only for half a year or a couple years at most, but from very young ages of prospects, starting from U16.

Personally I think it's a goal every organization should have. But I think it's a must for small-market teams like Utah to be aces in the drafting process since we'll forever have a hell of a time in free agency, coping with the luxury tax, etc.

Seems to fall in-line with the Dennis Lindsey/Spurs model. Their drafting success over the years is phenomenal. Tim Duncan (no-brainer, but still), Tony Parker at 28, Manu Ginobili at 57, Kawhi at 15...

You can only stalk actual players. Of course, there are some who seem to begin their stalking when players are fresh out of middle school.

We'll have lots of decisions to make regarding some existing players.. Burks, Kanter, etc.. but it appears, to me, that the Jazz are plotting a scheme to amass tons of picks (duh), beef up scouting (so it seems to be happening), and have a nucleus to build around of;

Exum - Burke - Hayward - Gobert - Favors - Hood

I think I can see where you're going with this. With the exception of Favors and Hayward, those are all guys that Lindsey has been involved in picking (although with Burke it seems it was Ty who really wanted him really bad). So I wouldn't be surprised if he gets traded if the price is right. If not we've got him on the cheap for a couple more years yet.

I do think Hood is our future at SF. He is physical enough to up his defensive game. He has a legit 3pt shot making ability and most of all he is a true team player and leader (without being cocky) in the team. He seems like he could really fit that Bruce Bowen mold perfectly.

So I think this is the team DL might secretly want to succeed:

Gobert
Favors
Hood
Hayward
Exum

All good character guys. All big & long for their positions. All smart defensively. Favors would need to show his improvement offensively but I have a feeling we'll tank it 1 more year and grab a future stretch 4 PF in this draft. If Favors still doesn't pan out then we can let him walk while our new PF is ready to take over.

I am completely sold on this guy PG_AB had been talking about. He has true stretch 4 potential in the NBA with range out to the 3pt line already. He's tall enough that he should be able to get his shots off in the NBA no problem whatsoever. His only knock is that he needs to bulk up a bit, but he should be able to do that.

Him next to Gobert is really gonna make them one of the tallest front court in the NBA defensively. As shown in the video below, this guy already has true defensive potential with quick active hands and the ability to block shots. Seems like the kind of guy DL would want on our team.

Rumor is KP had a promise from OKC had he stayed in the draft.

I really hope Burks is in the fold going forward. He has an elite ability to get to the basket, and that is a skill that will never go out of style (and may be necessary on the wing alongside Gordon Hayward).

I really like a long-term backcourt rotation of Exum, Burks, Hayward, and Hood (+backup PG). That is a long, athletic group that can handle the ball, shoot, get to the rim, and defend.

Re: Burks in the fold - I think it'll depend on how much $ he demands. He is a GREAT player coming off the bench. But not sure his lack of 3pt shooting will hurt us or not with Quin's new system where everyone except the Center position will be asked to shoot it from long range.

Re: KP seems like he is tailor made for the offense Quin is trying to implement. Great length and effort defensively. Great vision in terms of passing. Can shoot the midrange and 3pt shot.
