What's new

Did Dante really SAY THAT??? PART #2!!!!

Burke is going to be exquisitely ruthless hazing Dante next year. He'll be wearing a pink kangaroo backpack and who knows what else.

His conditioning is a complete non-concern for me. Between all the practices for SL and games for SL, practices for the World Cup and the games for the World Cup and the Jazz training camp, his conditioning will be fine.

Can we please stop talking about it now?

Uhhh. Did you not see Smart throw Dante around like a rag doll? So, you think Dante is going to put on 20 lbs in the next couple of months? Yeah, conditioning is one thing, and even though he will be practicing with the Aussies, doing sets, working on shots and technique and not really working on his conditioning, lets pretend he comes into camp ready to go lungs/legs wise. You still don't play him 30+ mins a night.

He isn't strong enough for it. What happens the first time Dwight swats his shot into the third row while the ball is still in his hands? Dislocated shoulder. Or the first time some backup C, Kosta Koufos, body checks him into the cameras under the hoop?

He is just a kid. He has to mature. There are two things you want to accomplish with Exum this year: Confidence and keep him healthy. Playing him 15 mins a game against bench players, when you have a good starting PG already, does both of those things. You didn't draft Exum for this year or next. You drafted him for years 3, 4, 5, and beyond. There is a reason why Lindsay keeps saying fans need to readjust their expectations. The Jazz will develop Exum similar to Kobe's path. 15 mins his rookie year. 25 his second. All-Star his third.

They will work on him learning the offense, improving his shot, dominating scrubs (I can't wait for all the whining here about how he should be playing 30 mins a night because he dominates scrubs), and getting his body ready for next year.

Also, if you think Exum will be conditioned by Oct, then you are crazy. He has done NOTHING the last six months except get ready to play in the NBA...and he couldn't make it up and down the court five times. He will be just as winded this fall as he was this summer.

You act like you don't think Exum knows how to play basketball.Even in SL it looked like Exum *KNEW* when to attack and when to probe.Another thing I don't think anyone here thinks Exum is fragile. What stands out about Exum is his extreme quickness and basketball speed.Has it dawned on you Exum might know when to blow by the defense.

It's already been written in the Utah papers (Tony Jones,Jody Gennessey)and on Blog Radio(David Locke)that Exum will get alot of minutes. The Jazz realize Exum isn't going to learn sitting on the bench watching Burke play. That the faster Exum learns ,the teams fortunes will rise with him.

That's BS talk...Exum is 19 years old ,it doesn't take these guys years to get in shape.Exum is already blessed with speed and quickness, but that took hours and hours of being a gym rat to have these kind of talents .Right now Exum is practicing and playing with the Aussie National team(ranked 9th in the world). For these National teams ,this is their top tournament of the year, lots of National Glory at stake.I think Exum knows what kind of tournament he's in ( DO YOU )and is getting in the best ball playing shape that he can. That translates to Pre-season and the regular season.

This Fiba World Championship is probably motivating Gobert,Hayward ,and a maybe Kantner(if he plays) to be in top basketball shape to play against the top International basketball players in the World.I don't know why you have such a low opinion of Exum to think he wouldn't be getting ready to play and excel in such a Prestigious tournament.

Nice post bro, and let me take this opportunity to welcome you to the board. I'd like to think we're a family here so make yourself at home and if you have any issues do let me know.

I like the post and agree with most of it. But over here the "prestigious" tournament about to be played means just about nothing. We don't care about it and don't consider it a blip on the basketball radar. That may be why fans like green are overlooking it.
.
I get that Exum and other foreign players don't see it the same way and I find it hard to believe than Exum won't come to camp in shape. In fact for a 19 year old kid it would probably take less than 2 weeks of serious training to get in shape and the preseason to get in basketball shape after that, even if he wasn't playing in this tournament. So I find the criticism of his stamina in summer league to be far too overblown. Especially for a guy who had not played an actual game before that for quite a while.

Getting into the 25 mpg condition would be one of the easiest things for Exum. The actual hard and long process will be the process of gaining strength.

getting his conditioning sorted to a level where he can contribute for 25 minutes at max tempo without getting completely spent is not that hard. It can literally be done in one month time. Getting his strength to a level where he'd be able to overpower or at least hold his own with the average PG in the NBA is not that easy, though. It requires long-time commitment, gaining some extra muscle mass, core-strength training and good nutrition. I don't think he'd be able to do it by the start of the regular season, but I believe that if he has the determination to succeed, he definitely can improve a lot by the start of his second year in the NBA. Don't forget that he's just 19. A lot of 19 year olds are more like kids, than adults when it comes to body shape. His body will naturally grow into his frame as he gets into his 20s, so in general I am not too concerned about that. I just wouldn't expect him to be at his max right away, this season.

You're not a Burke fan I take it?

Didn't mean to thank this post...

I'm not a huge Burke fan but not a hater either. I think he gets too much flack around here. I love his clutch shooting.

I think Exum already is an exceptionally better passer than Burke is.

Glad you can see this. Many here are still convinced Burke has superior passing skills.
