What's new

Portland Trailblazers (15-15) @ Utah Jazz (21-9) 12/27 7PM MST

Like I said, half of you bozos wouldn't know a real coach if one snuck up behind you and kicked you in the ***...

If you only knew how good you have it here in Utah... If you had ANY clue!

If ANY marquis player wanted to play in this boring state, and the Jazz were able to sign a Lebron, Kobe, Wade, etc... This guy would be piling up a mountain of championships and you guys would be kissing his *** game in and game out!

No offense to some of you who this doesn't apply to... But I find that most Jazz fans are just about as knowledgable as Vinylone... But able to post more than a sentence or two at the very least..

I love a good one liner...

You betchya baby. Just give ole Jer a couple of top notch players, like Stockton and Malone, for 15 years and he won't have enough fingers for the rings. Yup.

I think as fans, it's more painful to watch than just seeing the Ls or Ws or the boxscores.

These games where our offense is just completely stagnant are really piling up. We all made excuses that it was early on in the season when these games happened. Then we made excuses for Jefferson and Hayward.

We're getting to the 1/2 point quickly and most of the time our offense is STILL stagnant. Unless Deron goes all world and makes an amazing play, usually our offense ends up with a turnover, a brick from one of our guards, or an Al Jefferson shotput miss as the crowd groans at our offense's ineptness.

I don't think I've ever seen a Jerry Sloan offense so painful to watch. No, not even in 04 (when we had guys like Ben Handgloben and Carlos Arroyo) was our offense so ugly....

I know the Jazz are not down with a mid-season trade, but is this season different?

I thought when the Jazz got Raja as a Wesley replacement, they had done pretty well. Last night's game showed I was wrong, Wesley >>> Raja. Jazz blew that one big time, big time. He coulda been a key piece, now or in 5 years while Raja will fade out and be gone soon.

This is ****ing incredible.

Postgame notes, quotes — Jazz's Sloan says he went with his gut

Published on Dec 27, 2010 11:46PM 1 Comments

Jazz coach Jerry Sloan acknowledged toward the end of his postage interview Monday night that playing rookie forward Gordon Hayward all 12 minutes during the fourth quarter of Utah's 96-91 defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night might have been a mistake.

Hayward recorded 12 fourth-period minutes last Wednesday, keying the Jazz's 112-107 come-from-behind road victory against Minnesota.

Sloan's options were limited Wednesday, as starting forward Andrei Kirilenko left the game due to a lower back strain and did not return. However, Jazz reserve forward C.J. Miles — who sank seven 3-pointers to key a rally and ensuing road victory Nov. 20 against the Blazers — was available.

Sloan said that he possibly would have used Kirilenko, but added that "the matchups weren't very good at times."

"You just have to go with your gut, and sometimes it's wrong," Sloan said.

All right

Jazz guard Deron Williams suffered a sprained right wrist late in the game and was temporarily forced to leave the court to receive treatment. Williams' wrist was iced after the game, but he said that he will be "fine." He is listed as day to day.

New looks

The Jazz employed a new second rotation of Ronnie Price, Earl Watson, C.J. Miles, Mehmet Okur and Francisco Elson to start the second quarter. Utah later used a second unit composed of Watson, Hayward, Miles, Okur and Elson.

Feeling better

Okur said that he felt much better and was significantly more confident Monday — a world removed from his season debut Dec. 17 against New Orleans.

"Last time I came back, it was completely different for me," Okur said. "Because I didn't have any confidence. I didn't know what to do out there."

Okur said that he scrimmaged twice during Utah's recent four-day layoff between games, crediting the increased workload to an improved outing.

"It was great to be back on the floor running up and down," Okur said.

He added: "All I've got to do is stay positive and keep working at it. It takes time."

Okur was also proud to put on his home, dark-green Jazz warmups prior to tipoff — his first two games of the season were on the road.

Uncertain feeling

Raja Bell could not pinpoint the exact reason Utah continues to struggle with consistency, but highlighted the Jazz's lack of toughness in key losses.

"It's hard to put your finger on it. It's just something that we're caught falling into a rhythm of doing it," Bell said. "Tonight it was just one of those things that we couldn't get it going.

You could see everybody was kind of sluggish, and bodies weren't moving and we were standing and watching. And when you do that against any team in this league, you put yourself in a bad spot."

People seem to forget that Boozer had some pathetic games as well.

Everyone has pathetic games. But for the ones you can count on, they are the exceptions that prove the rule. Jefferson and Millsap have each had several mediocre performances this year. You could even say Jefferson has been a key in most of the Jazz losses. And as a rebounding tandem, they have been very, very disappointing.

Last year this time, the Jazz were 18-13. Currently, the Jazz are sitting at 21-10.

As the season plays along the Jazz are getting closer and closer to last years record.

Yeah but that was also during the years of arguably one of the best teams ever assembled in Michael Jordans Chicago Bulls... I'm not blaming Sloan for that one... Not to mention we were the ONLY team to take more than 1 game from them in a 7 game series... With the other team being the Pacers losing 4-3 in one Eastern Conference final (on a no call push off from Reggie Miller on Michael Jordan no less)...

Don't talk to me about that era buddy, because I remember it very well... And I will SHRED you debating that decade!

Two things: Sloan had those two studs forever. Second, there is ALWAYS a great team to beat. Ya gotta get it done. Sloan has not despite ample time and talent.

You must understand that you are arguing with one of the biggest Sloan haters on this board in zman. No amount of logic or rationale is going to help you out here.

If anyone says wes played a good game last night then they have no eye balls to see.
How about that, eh? As a starter, Wes has been averaging about 20 points on 48% shooting and so his 14 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists in a road win vs the Jazz could well be a bad game for him these days -- given the recent celebrations over Hayward's 5 points, if our current SGs like Bell or Price or Hayward put up those kind of numbers, it would be as if they had a god-like performance.

I do not hate Sloan, I just recognize that he is not a god and has his limits and weaknesses.

Well, a few weaknesses. No biggie.

Such as actually planning for a game (including matchups), making mid-game adjustments (such as responding to a zone and reallocating time to those who are doing well), and enforcing what seems to be his own philosophy of full effort (especially when it comes to defense, including rebounding).

Besides that, he's among the best, at least when you factor in longevity.

Not to mention the occasional crazy *ss player bias's, like Benoit over Russel, Keefe over Morris, Palacio over Williams, and lately Elder Hayward over any other wing in the 4th. His "gut" has some funny "ideas" at times.
