The Utah Jazz today announced that the team has hired Patrick Beilein and Lamar Skeeter as player development/video analysts, and named Taylor Snarr as coordinator of analytics. Per team policy, terms of the agreements were not announced. NBA.com

Never heard of either one of them but I am loving the dedication, effort and preperation that appears to be going on to be ready for training camp. Jazz going all in on making the players the best they can be. Very good sign.

Honestly, this is something the team has been missing. I hope we see a difference going forward.

This makes so much sense to me... if you have tens of millions invested in these players and can get additional development staff for tens of thousands why wouldn't you? Seems like such an effective use of resources.

I remember hearing a story about how Leandro Barbosa had a dedicated coach to work with him when he was on the Suns. Mentioned how much it helped. I hope the Jazz have something similar. Being accountable to someone and having someone always stay on you (in a good way) can make a huge difference with these players development.

This coincides with the scout that told me the Jazz are aspiring to become the best scouting team in the NBA.. HS, collegiate, NBA, and international.

It's crazy what jazzfanz does to mind.

As I have read the title, I thought of the word as "Biffed" and thought you were gonna criticize the new staff. But reading the OP I re-checked the title.

The Jazz are beginning to look like Money Ball... which I like.
The Jazz still seem to be behind on the analytics front. They've been one of the teams that's opted out of the Sloan Conference, and this dude they just hired put together the database for Player Tracking data as an intern last year.

psychology degree and background in department of corrections? What am I missing?
He has a relative, Michael Snarr (who is a fb friend of Taylor Snarr's mom), who is Vice President of Strategic Partnerships for the Jazz.

With that said, dude may be perfectly competent, and it's not entirely clear what his role with the team is. The 2013/14 Jazz media guide doesn't list anyone whose primary function is analytics. The Jazz seem to be behind the curve here.

edit: Michael Snarr might be his dad, actually...The Jazz are a family business after all.
