This depends on your economic perspective.(your place in the global economic hierarchy)

Example: For many people the housing crisis was a disaster. For the house flipper that depended on endless growth it was a crisis. For me and mine it was a boon. In the early 00s I was in my early 20s and starting a family. Our housing choices were to pay rent and be subject to a landlord or become grossly indebted to a bank and live in a constant state of panic. The housing "crisis" allowed us to be free of a landlord with a comfortable mortgage.

Never ending growth isn't so glamorous from the bottom of the heap. The further down you are the more harmful the increasing prices and excess workforce are. So yeah for many it might be a crisis but for many it will be a boon. A paradigm shift if you will.
 
Natural selection at work. Mentally weak and fragile minds getting eliminated from competition. It sucks to be them TBH. I think I would accept only doctor assisted suicide for people who are terminally ill or suffering from severe pain.

This is not natural selection, nor selection of any form.

There is not a person on this forum or alive for that matter, that does not have something that would break them and get them to actively think about that option. That includes you. Keep that in mind the next time you go off about people being mentally weak.

Are you saying that there isn't a link between genetics and depression?

His attitude is crass and distasteful but I am unsure why you think there is no selection of ant form here. If someones depression is largely genetically caused. Suicide would be a form of selection against that gene.
