Really? Did a quick google and found this info - what do you think?

drinking beer won't give you beer belly. Things that you eat with beer give you beer belly (ex. wings, nachos, etc). so, if you just drink beer without anything, you should be fine.

Out of all the drugs I've tried, and it's been many, the only thing I hate worse than CNS depressants (of which booze belongs to) is speed.

So from my view, in the grand scheme of drugs I just don't care for booze. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for drug use (and all for sobriety, whatever floats your boat), just not that one for myself.

Not true in my case, it would be great if I can drink alcohol and not get drunk. I truly just enjoy the 'flavour'. You can't compare the flavour of alcohol to an orange juice I don't think because alcohol has more than just the 'taste', it has the 'aroma' as well incorporated into the flavour which brings your nose into it as well as your tongue.

As an example, try steaming mussels in pot without adding white wine, it just doesn't taste the same.

Alcohol has no flavor whatsoever. It does impart a "dry" effect, which can enhance the flavors in the booze, but by itself it doesn't add any sort of flavor.

While I think there would be a market if a Star Trek esque world existed where "synthaol" was a thing, I think most booze drinkers would revolt.

I think you're trolling me.

That said, wtf is "good beer?"

Anyway, over-consumption of calories and lack of exercise is what causes a beer belly. Yeah, you wanna suck down a 12er a night, you're gonna be over-consuming calories and lacking exercise. You wanna suck down 3-4 home-poured mixed drinks with sugary juice or sour mix? You wanna drink a bottle of wine? Guess what...you're gonna get a "beer belly."

The thing in a beer, wine, or liquor that contains the most calories is the alcohol itself. Alcohol has a lot of calories per volume. If you're going to compare total calories per beverage I want to see exactly how much alcohol each of those beverages contain (ethanol/oz). I also want to know what happens when you mix 1.5oz of 80 proof liquor with 8oz of fruit juice.

Not trolling... i mean if i can choose to drink a glass of wine or a glass of beer with my meal in one sitting.. the beer will cost me 150 calories but the wine will cost me 90... 9/10 times i'd probably just go with a glass of wine instead.

When I do drink (about 3-4 times/year), I do so to enjoy the feeling or relaxation (I'm not sure if that is option 1 or option 4); mostly I don't drink and never really saw the point in getting anything more than slightly buzzed.

My apologies if this sounds like an attack. It isn't.
Buy do you ever do anything that lacks an apparent, 'point?'

One of the great benefits of getting your alcohol from beer is its relatively low alcohol content. A 6%abv beer is 94% water. Alcohol is a diuretic and hangovers are largely caused by dehydration. Drinking potent mixed drinks and even wine gives you a lot less water per quantity of ethanol. It is also easy to continue drinking beer for an extended period without going overboard. I think that's one of the reasons beer is such a popular beverage.

I always found vodka to be the least likely to give me a hangover and beer one of the most. Part of it probably is that when you drink liquor you usually have a chaser. When you drink beer you just drink beer.

the term "drinking" is so vague, that implying that "drinking" tastes like **** is simply untrue. While i agree there are beverages that taste like horse piss, there is simply NOTHING better than a cold craft beer on a hot day or some top shelf gin.

Rum gives me a headache.

All rum?
My body responds very differently depending on if it's one of the clear rums or if it's one of the darker more molassesy ones. Also aged versus not-aged makes a difference. For me, I can basically sip the dark, aged rums all day without any problem.

Yes.. same.

Funny, when this thread started last night I was out drinking.

I drink so I can sit through a Giants football game - so there.

Actually, I'm probably closest to option 3. Nothing wrong with getting the occasional buzz on; but if I go out and just drink Pepsi, it's all pretty much the same to me.

When I was in college I drank loads of bourbon and vodka. I got myself into some bad situations so I just stopped - a few were violent, others involved fat chicks.

I have several friends who are option 2. They go to beer festivals and are always drinking some **** I've never heard of. They bust my balls for just drinking Coors or Miller; but whatever. I'm way past the point of peer pressure. That and I'm cheap.
