Don't drink but for more than one reason.
Yes, there are religious reasons.
About equal with that is I have seen enough people close to me and not close to me drink and have seen what that does to them. Some it takes over their lives.
Some would drink socially and it would change them. Some of those decided to stop for their own reasons. Often my friends that were drinking would do extremely stupid things and think they were funny.
To be fair there are some that drink that don't do too stupid of things and it doesn't seem to noticeably harm their lives, but that's the exception as far as people I know personally.

I really have never had any desire to drink or take anything that would change me for that matter. Laughing gas and other medicines for dental and/or surgeries and pain meds... when it comes to me taking them, hate them all.
I understand there are reasons people enjoy it, but it has absolutely zero draw for me.

I answered because of the taste. When I was younger we drunk a lot for stupidest reasons, to be cool, to be more brave with chicks, whatever, you name it. It was few years in my life without alcohol at all when I was seriously involved with sports. Now I have occasional beer just for the taste as I like trying new beers just for the sake of trying different tastes. Never was fan of any strong drinks but vodka. Wine is ok occasionally but I find I don't like it's taste that much. Recently my wife discovered Japanese plum wine which is freaking expensive but is very sweet and smooth.

When I was young, active LDS and naive about the world, I'd look down at my peers who drank telling myself that they needed alcohol as a crutch to have fun, while I, an obedient LDS lad, didn't need a crutch to have fun.

Well, now that I'm on the other side, I can say definitively that drinking IS fun. Sitting around, at a bar, around a campsite, or whatever drinking, shooting the breeze, etc. is fun, more fun than without alcohol. Alcohol does tend to loosen inhibitions and facilitate a more enjoyable and spontaneous interaction among people. I now have a number of stories (and fond memories) of good and strange (but good strange) times where alcohol has been involved. Having to choose between good clean Mormon and sober 'fun' and alcohol aided 'fun,' I'll take the latter every time.

Personally, I don't like to get drunk. I'll tend to drink to the point where I feel like I'm losing control, and then I'll stop. I do now and then get drunk, but I don't like feeling out of control and I definitely don't like hangovers.

I am a purely social drinker. I rarely drink alone. I tend to prefer beer to spirits--in fact, I don't like most spirits straight (tequila straight, for example, is just horrible and I'm not a big whiskey or bourbon fan) but prefer mixed drinks. Wine is ok, but I can live without it. In many cases, I'd just as prefer to have a Diet Coke than an alcoholic drink.

p.s. I'm not trying to bash anything LDS here. I'm just reflecting on my personal experience here.

My apologies if this sounds like an attack. It isn't.
Buy do you ever do anything that lacks an apparent, 'point?'

I think having fun is an apparent point, and if you find being drunk fun, I have no problem with it as long as it doesn't affect others.. I just never saw a drunk person and said to myself, 'I want to act/look/feel like that'.

Maybe you should try it with meth.

I did not vote because I drink for a lot of different reasons.

1) A occasional beer before bed is really relaxing. If it's been a hard or stressful day just having 1 beer will relax my mind and take it off of things that happened during the day. Making it easier to sleep.
.
2) Socially. I drink with friends while playing poker, pool or Darts. While hanging with friends at a bar or bowling. It's fun, and increases the entertainment value. I rarely drink much at these times but do enjoy getting a comfortable buzz and maintaining it.
.
3) To get drunk. I rarely do this and don't enjoy being out of control so don't tend to drink as much as some while doing this. But occasionally it's nice to just let loose and drink to get sloshed. I don't tend to get hangovers and don't generally get sick while drinking even in large quantities ( I think this is from being a veteran and smart drinker).
.
There are other more subtle reasons but this is also the order for reasons I drink. All that said I've almost quit drinking. I bought a six pack of shocktop 3 weeks ago and just finished it last night (never more than 1 beer a night). I have not had any liquor besides that in over 3 months. Just kind of lost my taste for it at this time.
.
I also drink for the taste of it. Meaning I will choose what to drink based on the taste. But that is not the underlying reason I drink. I love Jaegermeifter, only person I know that will just pour 3 or 4 shots in a glass and sip on it for an hour. Most people drink Jaeger to shoot and get drunk fast I just love the taste of it.
