ESPN suspends Bill Simmons

Certain people, like bill Simmons, are hired because they are loud. Why hit him for that? To me that's why you hired him.

He didn't even say anything that inflammatory. He could have said way worse about Goodell. Think he mainly got suspended because he challenged ESPN at the end.

The outrage on twitter from Simmons fans is great though. If Simmons had the capital to break off of ESPN and start his own sports website, I would probably never visit ESPN again. I remember when he got suspended last year for talking about how ****ty Skip Bayless, Stephen A Smith, and First Take are. After that, he pretty much solidified his position as teh best sports writer of all time.

ESPN is a ****ing joke. Grantland is the only **** of theirs I care about-- no surprise who happens to run it.

So if you blame the victims of domestic violence you get 1 week.

If you call someone who covers domestic violence up a liar you get 3 weeks.

Great system.

Not saying I condone any of ESPN's decision making, but it's not like they become this mega-empire by mistake. They obviously know what they're doing, so who are we to try and decide how they should run their company? They've been doing something right all these years - and that's manipulating the idiotic public into forming what they should be interested in sporting wise as well as what they should talk about.

I have felt this way for about 10 years now.
I'm one of his biggest fans.

If anyone has not bought his basketball book then you are idiots. Go buy it and read it. It's fantastic

You can find internet archives going back to the the 90's of Bill Simmons trashing ESPN - way before Deadspin. I'm sure there are people at ESPN who were never that thrilled about the Bill Simmons hire to begin with - and they were probably waiting for this moment. And the fact that they can do it while appeasing their billion dollar business partner makes it all the more appealing to them.

Mad respect for Simmons speaking his mind. I feel the same way that he does about liars. Honesty is a much bigger deal than society in general makes it. Goodell's handling of this situation should have definitely gotten him fired.

I struggle with Simmons. He spent years thrashing Espn only to gladly sign on and take their money. I guess it's up for debate on whether he took the job for the money, or felt strongly enough about himself that maybe he could bring some good content to them but I'm guessing it was the $$$$$.

What Espn did to him was ******** but the NFL and Espn are in bed together to the point where they should just change their name to NFL Network II. Espn is not going to risk losing TV rights, etc. because one of their reporters had the balls to speak the truth.

As far as Gooddell goes, he is genuinely a bad person. Anybody with a shred of intelligence can never believe the lie that him and his goons never saw that tape and everything else they've botched since this happened. The Ray Rice scandal is not the first time Gooddell has done some shady **** either. The NFL pays him $43 mil a year and the dude is rotten to the core.
