Preseason Game #6: Jazz visits LA @7:30 PM on ROOT

Ya, burke, burks, hayward are a very good 1,2,3 punch and compliment each other pretty well.... as long as Burks doesn't chuck. (Which he has not so far when playing with those guys).

Also hood starting would get killed on the defensive end, mostly due to refs not giving him any help at all

Burks has improved quite a bit imo. My biggest knock on him would be that he is still having a tough time fighting through picks but at his size that's probably always going to be an issue.

I went to the game and Ronnie Price was everywhere on the court--charges, assists, drives. A combination of playing against the Jazz and trying to make the Lakers' squad led to one of his best games on both ends of the court. I hope he makes the LALs and actually gets some minutes behind Nash and Lin.

In the first gif Hayward and burks were both wide open for threes. Does that mean exum went "rogue?" jk, great play by exum

So Hayward and Favors only play 12 mins and Burke sits out: Jazz win 1st half by 16 points.
Almost all subs the rest of the way with the exception of Kanter and Burks; Lakers come back and win by 7. Sounds like Quin was getting the rookies and bench players a little experience, maybe evaluating some he may consider cutting or keeping, giving rotation minutes to, etc. Isn't that what preseason is for? I see absolutely zero cause for concern. Give Hayward and Favors starter minutes in the 2nd half and the Jazz easily win this game. Play Burke and Booker and the rout is on!

This has nothing to do with going rogue. There were 3 seconds on the clock, the play had already been broken. When people say Burks goes rogue they mean that he takes the ball with 18 on the clock and abandons every play they've practiced all week and just does what he wants to do(drive to the rim). To be fair, maybe passing to Hayward was a better decision in this specific instance, but not by a big margin. If he trusts his floater, this is not a bad play at all...

Our offense with starers has looked good every game. It has looked better without Burks so far, small sample size, but it is what it is.

The ball movement has been much crisper without Burks in the game and plugging in Hood instead.

Like I said, small sample size and Burks can learn how to play within the offense more, but right now, it has looked better with Hood.

Way too small a sample size. Besides, this was Burks' first game back and we were without Burke.

I don't think we've seen the "starters" yet. Kanter doesn't look like the guy. It should probably be Burke/Burks/Hayward/Booker/Favors.

Is it possible that quin plans plays that the jazz practice all week to have Burks get a screen with 18 seconds on the clock and drive to the rim? How do we know he is going rogue? Has snyder said that? Has Burks minutes been cut when he has been healthy (I think he has averaged more minutes than anyone in the games he has been available for)? Have we seen Burks getting chewed out?

Honest questions

You can tell when something is part of the offense or it isn't by how the play is setup. It's not that hard to tell when there is a breakdown and a player is just winging it. Let's not act like Burks doesn't break the offense more than anyone.

Maybe snyder approves of it then. I have seen no consequences so far.

Maybe snyder is not going to hold players accountable I guess

btw I saw Hayward go one on one numerous times tonight that didn't appear to be the play that was called

"Kanter played 38 minutes tonight. His defense must have been good because Snyder didn't take him out and yell at him." - FishonJazz logic applied to Enes Kanter.

Yes, Burks is not the only player who breaks the offense, he is just the one who does it most often.

Nope not really. I'm just saying that there COULD BE other things happening. Basically we don't know everything about what goes on in the game. We are not in timeouts, practices, meetings, etc.

Maybe kanter got a lot of minutes because of his offense. I don't know

I your opinion. I'm fine with that

You can usually see when a play is totally out of the team's play and team's concept. It's usually when he gets the ball and just tries to beat his man off the dribble and just drives, no use of screens, no use of passes or movement of the teammates. Look at the second half today if you have the tape, there were plenty of those. I have no problem with him going to the rim when it's within the system, when he uses a screen and cuts to the basket, when he receives a pass off a screen and drives, even when the play had been broken and we need improvisation with limited time on the clock.

Here's what Quin said for today's game. I don't think he will single out a player, especially this early, but can you have a wild guess who he was talking about:
"One of those Jekyll & Hyde things... I thought there was a number of guys who played very well the first half when the ball moved, and [in the second half] when people started doing too much on their own you run the risk of that happening".

I am far from thinking that Burks was the only one who broke the offense. The whole team takes part in breaking it, but he's been the culprit more often than anybody else, I think. What's worse I think is that when it gets broken several times in a row, the whole rhythm gets lost and it becomes contagious...

I guess we will just have to see what happens to Burks minutes as the season goes on and he continues to go rogue. So far it seems that there has been no consequence, but it's still early.

If snyder does have a problem with Burks then we will probably see Burks minutes began going to exum and hood as the season progresses.

I guess it's pre-season and alot of things have to play themselves out

What did Kanter do well in that time. (as I feel well versed, after reading the thread, on the negative side of things)
