Burks 4 year $42 million extension!

This contract is probably too much money for a player that just barely cracked the starting lineup for the first time and only really had one mediocre season of play under his belt.

Yeah. These people watch basketball religiously, and follow everything very closely.

I'm sure these "NBA people" understand the situation the Jazz are in as well. If we lose Burks, his alternative would probably cost just as much to come here in FA.

The Jazz have to keep their players, and have to take gambles on their players improving.

Everyone hated DeRozan's deal at the time too and that one worked out. I think Burks absolutely has the potential to at least be a DeRozan type player. I don't have a problem with the contract.

It is definitely too much money. Jazz are betting on his future and I don't have a problem with it.

Am I crazy for thinking that a Max contract for Burks and 4-year-42-million-extension for Hayward would have made more sense?
Not saying it would have been the right thing to do, but if you're gonna Max out a player I would have rather maxed out Alec.

Burks has all the physical tools to succeed in the NBA, let's see if Quin can work with his mindset and bring out the best in him.

If he continues to improve with the same trajectory, I'm OK with the deal.

OH and he needs to shoot more 3's - he's an improved shooter.

I'm not with you there. I think Hayward is a consistent 3-pointer (and maybe a little more aggression) away from being worth his contract. Alec has shown the flashes but hasn't had to same opportunities and still has more to prove as of now.

Don't like it. Corrected as I just saw the details on the new TV deal.

Still don't like it. I don't think Burks is all that hot. Hopefully this is precursor to trade.

$5 the Jazz said "Well there is no way in hell we are giving Kanter any money, so lets throw a few extra million at Burks to make him feel loved."

This doesn't hamstring us at all salary wise unless he gets hurt (which you could say about any player)...

If we needed to clear space and didn't want Alec we could trade him for an expiring and a first rounder tomorrow (if league rules allowed it). I think this contract helps his trade value and actually gives us more flexibility.

The cap is going to loosen man, have you been living under a rock?

It might be tight until the deal kicks in, but who are we going to sign between now and then? No more rookie contracts extensions coming up til Burke/Gobert 2 years. We will probably just sign more Booker-esque type deals.

It's called earning more than minimum wage.

And nothing is a done deal until it is a done deal.

DL is smart enough to treat both cases completely independent. Rich Cho might have got him to up it a couple million though.

no matter how we slice it that is way way too much.

i like that we are opening up our wallet. it's a good sign. we want to show others that we are willing to pay. but man, both hayward and burks contract is hard to swallow.
