I'm still not sure where you will defend. I hope it's not where I am planning on attacking. :)

So I have three possible positions to take in checking you on this turn. I'm going to look closely at each one in terms of how you might evade a check move. I'll be back after I get a new tenants' water running. Might take me some time.

It looks to me like you're all set up to attack me on the queen side.

But the real question is whether I can take the initiate somehow in making an attack of my own.

edit: now a few hours later, I'm back from my mission as a plumber, successful at that.

So I've thought about this game a bit. Usually I like to do a diagonal game if I can get the jump on starting an attack, and that would mean I choose a queenside castle here, but OB's last move changes that because I think I can gain an advantage here.

If you're going where I think you're going, I must admit I've never seen a haven like that in chess before.

If Siro tries to head down behind my pawn structure on the queenside, I will win unless somehow he can eliminate or force me to a position where I can't make a lined up check with either his Queen or Rook on the other side of his King. I think that is the only place he can "hide" without interposing a pawn, which is what I actually think he will do.

played chess for the first time in ten years the other day.

Won. But I still really suck.

I thought I came back about three or four hours ago and made my move, but I can't see it anymore???

OK, for sure it didn't make it into the record here. I'll go back and quote Siro's last move and make my move.

I think this is the move I tried to post a few hours ago. Dunno, I was being interrupted by business phone calls and kids who deserve quality time. . . .sorry about that, Siro. It's really not that hard a decision to make, it's the one that gives me a check next move even if you interpose the pawn.

not a lot of need for time when there's no choice. . . .

edit: well, there is a choice, actually. . . .????. . . . nope. nothing.

and I think you see the corner, your Ka6 refuge. . . .

looks like this will result in another rocker with draw potential. . . .

You're right, of course. Unless you want to see it concluded, I do offer a draw.

This game still belongs entirely to you per the rules I live by.

It's been fun to pursue it to this point and thank you for tolerating the exercise, and giving me this challenge. I'd been thinking that my pawns' ability to project a check could even offer a chance to "win", but this particular position you take doesn't do that. And it's not entirely clear to me I can force you into the one that does, so a "draw" is reasonable.

this position givers you the choice of a5 or b2. or c4. the b2 leads to a checkmate by my Queen at Qb5, a5 and c4 are checkable positions for my Queen. c4 sets up another draw rocker, a5 is checkably by the pawn. Sure you can take it, but you lose cover and give my queen three more mate positions protected by the Rook. If you don't take it, I'd have to check you again, you could retreat to a7 and another check by my Queen, and your interposition of a pawn, sets up another draw rocker. . .

Amazing what a loose queen can do in a game just one move from mate.

d1 still seems too passive a post for the bishop.
