Anyone else bummed with this Team ?

At least last year it was Fire Ty and we will get at least 6 more wins for that.

Well, not so much.

Hayward - definitely stepped it up, needs to be more consistent though. Plus he needs to be his 4th quarter aggressive from tip-off. Unsure if that is the way quinn wants him to start or not.

Favors - Disappointing. Not as dominant / improving as I would have hoped.

Burke. - Needs to go. Can't defend a 5 year old.....

Burks - Is what he is. Solid player, but now that teams have scouted him, his drives are much harder than last year.

Kanter - Don't like him. (Love Gobert). Don't see him making it.

Synder - ehhh. not impressed. That play call the other day where we could not even inbound the ball was on him. That was beyond a stupid design.


I realize the season is being tanked, but watching the games are starting to not be fun......


I also expected to get better and it seems we are getting worse.

Off soap box and back to my Jazz blues....

We have been more competitive so far this season, and most of the games have been fun to watch. We'll almost certainly finish with a better record than last year, but it will be along pre-season expectations of ~30 wins. Implementing a system is something that takes more than a few weeks, and Snyder is not a magical wish granting genie. Hayward and Favors both took a step forward, and they look like solid starters on a contender. Gobert looks to be heading in that direction as well. We'll end up with a good pick this year, and if Exum becomes even an average starting PG, we'll be in a very good spot in a couple of years. And of course, we have a bunch of assets that can be used to acquire a good FA.

Rebuilding takes time. If you can't handle that fact, then perhaps you should stop watching until the level of play starts meeting your expectations.
 
I hoped for a little better but I'm not worried about the losing. I'm actually kind of enjoying the thought of another tank just because I think we could become a really good team as we mature and why not get another high pick since there is no need to win now?


Hayward- As you said, needs a little more consistency, but love him.

Favors- Will never go into beast mode and takes plays off. Very talented, but not happy with him. He doesn't have the heart of a champion IMO.

Burke- Plays with heart. Maybe we trade him but otherwise I like him until next season when Exum has another 10 lbs. of chiseled stone on his frame.

Burks- Plays hard usually but he will not get better IMO.

Kanter- I still see him getting better, maybe even a lot better when taking offense and defense into account. He's pretty much automatic around the hoop. Love his passion.

Snyder- So far I like him. Not afraid to mix it up and good game management.

Exum- Tons of talent, huge upside once he gets stronger, but damn is he petrified of taking it to the hole...probably because he is a boy playing against men.

Gobert- I friggin love him. So disruptive it's unreal. He has a HUGE upside.

Hood- He reminds me of the ultra-smooth players of the 90's. I see him becoming really good.

Booker- Just what the Jazz need in terms of his attitude. Like Demarre, he brings passion to the game...if only it would rub off on Favors.

No I am not disappointed. I expected a rough year. I think the wins will pick up again as the year goes on, like last year. Still holding firm to my 34 wins predicition. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

I expected us to lose a lot and be entertaining as hell in the process. During preseason I got my hopes a little higher like everyone did... Otherwise I'd say I'm happy with where we are. Our young guys have shown improvement... Except for Trey. I love the overall feel of these guys... They play hard and compete and I see no selfishness out of them. They are easy to root for.

Hopefully second half of the season we'll see more aggressiveness in Exum and better shooting out of Hood. If those things don't improve I would say I'll be mildly disappointed in the season.
 
I warned people pre-season that they are having too high expectations... This team is extremely young and inexperienced with very shallow and offensively impotent bench. There was no way in hell we were going to win more than 30 games.

Trey has shown improvement. One can argue that it's not enough (where I would land) or not as much as the others but he has improved.

Last 10 games he is shooting 39% (2% higher than career, 3% increase over the season average), TOs have seen a small decrease, he is getting to the rim easier and he is finally trying on D.

I think he has the farthest to go and I hope he makes it but he is a better player than last year.
 
I think the positives cancel the negatives out. Obviously not every player we draft is going to be a starter level player, so if you were expecting that, you will always be disappointed. But to me it is now clear who we should build around, and who is expendable. We have a "direction" if you will.

Positives:
Hayward - probably still a little shy of an all star but worth a rookie max and has the TS% (.570) of a second option on a winning team. He does this while creating all by himself (only assisted 43% of the time). Very impressive.
Favors - he is who he is. His low minutes obscure how good he really is. Won't take over a game but has improved his scoring this year. His jump shot is 48% from 10-16'. The Gobert/Favors experiment will happen.
Gobert - nuff said.


Negatives:
Kanter - an intriguing player but not sure his ceiling isn't a gimped Boozer. Many nights he'll have 0 assists/steals/blocks.
Burke - being small with average foot speed makes it an up hill battle for him every night. His failure to improve his shooting is what really buries him though.
Burks - seems to complacent. Turning more into a "system guy" than the scorer we need. That said, his 3pt shot is encouraging at almost 38%.
Hood- should be a little more effective for a 22 year old.

The Sixers are tanking. Their roster is full of undrafted players and they are starting and playing those same guys. Nearly every player the Jazz is running out there is a lottery pick, or at least a first rounder. We didn't tank last season, and we aren't tanking this season either. We are playing the guys that we tanked to get... and they just suck.
 
I predicted 27 wins, so I'm not surprised nor disappointed with the team.

I am disappointed with some of the individual players, I thought some of them would have stepped up and shown more. Favors is inconsistent and good but never great. Alec burks goes missing for major stretches and sometimes I think he is playing a different game than his teammates. Enes Kanter wants to be a twitterverse political activist but that darned basketball thing keeps getting in his way.

I am disappointed in Lindsey, yes I said it. He gets credit for Gobert but little criticism for Trey. And he just spent 26 million-per for Hayward and Burks. If he fails to turn Enes into an asset or sign him to a decent deal Lindsey should have to reapply for his job.
 
I'm only disappointed in the fact I was sure Trey was going to be a monster at some point, and it's looking more and more like he's pedestrian. Obviously having a PG who can make a consistent positive impact on both ends is critical to Snyder's system. Trey has been barely better than abysmal, and Dante is still a few years away.

I certainly became blinded/drunk on Jazz Kool-Aid during the preseason, but I still knew playoffs were basically out of the question for this year deep down in my heart. I still have 100% faith in Quin, and it's already obvious to me he's world's better than Corbin.
 
Jazz need defense and shooting. Hayward, exum, favors and gobert are the players I would keep and field calls for all others if it brings back either shooting or defense or both. Would also take lotto picks (if the jazz could draft towns and Winslow or Johnson next year)
 
Hayward's the weak link in my opinion. Not a big fan of paying max money to a player who will never be a 1st option in a contender, which should be the final objective. Hope we didn't dig ourselves too big of a hole with this. My hopes right now are on Exum, Hood and Gobert. We need to redefine our 'core' imo.

Not true.
Favors was aquired in a trade with new jersey
Hayward was aquired in trade with the Knicks
Burks was a #12 pick
Trey was aquired by way of trade
Im not sure how we got the #3 pick to get kanter but I think it was from the dwill trade.

Basically we didn't tank to get anyone on our entire roster other than exum
 
Honestly, I am more disappointed with the execution of the offense than anything, and I don't feel like we are utilizing Kanter and Favors to their strengths. We are relying too much on the perimeter game with not enough inside-out play. There needs to be a better balance. We run very similar sets (Horns offense) as the Spurs, but we don't have the 3 point shooters to make it effective. I also feel like the first 10 seconds of the offense is somewhat useless, and we rarely if ever get points off of it. Then again, you could arguably say the same regarding the UCLA offense last year, as the screens were only half-hearted and we rarely got quick baskets off the cuts. There is a reason we are taking to many rushed shots as the shot clock expires, and it is poor execution.

I don't care that we are losing, it is how we are losing. Trey is overshooting, and Quin hasn't done anything about it. There are too many defensive lapses, and most of them begin on the perimeter. That said, there are new concepts on both sides of the floor, and it takes time to make it work. I was just hoping to see more progress than I have. It is still more watchable than last season.

OMG this is a guy we traded two first round draft picks for. The scouts ought to be flogged. This ranks right up there with the RGIII trade.
 
It's a bummer how bad we're doing, but I honestly think the biggest issue our guys have is attitude/confidence.

Kanter and Burke might be weak links. Kanter's offense is there, but I don't know if he'll ever be able to defend in the NBA. Burke's offense is finally coming around, but his defense is the same as Kanter's. Honestly, I think most of us loving Burke last year was due to the fact that it was either him, or JLIII.

Luckily, this is a big man draft coming up, so we should be able to replace Kanter pretty easily, and we have Exum on the bench to replace Burke if it comes down to it. But even Exum needs to grow some balls and start playing some real basketball, instead of playing the "stand around the perimeter" style of basketball he's been playing.
