What's new

Coming to Grips on Draft, Free Agency, and the Ultimate Future

Hood is not a bust. Way, way, WAY to early to pass any judgment one way or the other there.

Exum shows promise and I'm very hopefull for him.

Gobert is a beast. With a good passing PG his PPG could increase by 6-8ppg right off the bat next year.

Favors and Hayward. Enough said.

Burks is our 6th man IMO.

Burke eludes me. If he can get consistent and up his %s then we are in business.

Kanter is improving on D but he must improve his passing. No love his hunger on the boards and he is a great post threat on O.

Snyder has lived up to his billing in my opinion.

The future isn't bright it's blinding.

Oh man... I was wrong about Hood's age. He's 22, and 23 in October. Don't understand why everyone is saying its too early to tell on Hood. History would say that 22 year old shooters who shoot below 30% from 3 don't get all that much better. And as I have said before, he's quite limited athletically. I think 5 years from now, he'll be out of the league or a 12th guy on the bench type.

Only reason hood might be a bust is due to being Injured not his ability to play.

I think Exum will be fine. If you think he can be elite defender and can get to the line at an elite level combine that with his already good passing ability and usable three point shot that means he could be a top 30 player in the league. Pretty sure if you have an elite defender, elite and getting to the line passing pg you are pretty damn good.

Gobert is already better than Chandler on offense. Thought about it and he is and will be.

Pretty sure Burke is already most hated player on this board or close to it, so nothing new there. I dont think he is a starter in the league unless he becomes a better shooter and a more willing passer. I do think he is young enough that maybe those things change though. But I think our future pg is Exum.

Jazz going to taper off winning since we have no depth and Hayward is getting worn down. Unless we make a trade deadline move we are not going to be winning at the same clip we have the last month. We are going to get around the 8-9 pick still though. I believe we will make the jump and get a top three pick.

If we keep Kanter in the offseason we will do almost nothing in FA. If we let him walk for nothing we will be very active in FA and get someone better than Ronnie Price (still my favorite player)

I'd like to address your comment about Exum. My concern with Exum is that he'll have below average ability to shoot off dribble throughout his career. Perhaps even worse than Rondo or Rubio. It looks really bad whenever he does it in the games. Seeing it makes me cringe and I'd rather fancy having shards of glass in my eyes instead. No one seems to even talk about how bad Exum is shooting off dribble. It's a big problem along with his unwillingness to just go to the damn cup. If the shooting off the dribble continues as problem going forward, Exum will absolutely not sniff top 30 ever. He's gotta get to a point where people will respect his J.

He shot very well in college (42% from the 3 last year). He just hasn't had the chance to get into a rhythm in the NBA. I know 22 year olds are supposed to be ancient now, but that's obviously nonsense. He can improve considerably, just like players who played several years of college back in the day, which was the norm, improved considerably in the NBA. You're rushing to judgement on a player that we've barely seen.

This year has been better than I thought it would be from an entertainment standpoint and I'm not just talking about what has gone on off the court. Ultimately, the games themselves have been much more entertaining than I thought they'd be. There are a few reasons for this. Allow me to ennumerate:
1-Quin Snyder's influcence on this team has been pervasively incredible.
2-Gordon Hayward has been balling like a flat out bawse dog gangsta.
3-Rudy Gobert has been, as FishinJazz has so eloquently coined, eatin souls out there
4-Derrick Favors has Dat Jumper fallin! And that man's PER is top 15 league wide.

I've watched this season with a keen eye. I've seen everything from WAKE UP!!!!, GTime's Game winner vs the convalescing cavs, and the various Gobliterations, to "scurred" Dante, Hayward's ISO dominance, the UnderKanter temper tantrum, and the Trevor Booker "Do you believe in miracles" Shot. I like to think that my life time fandom, intelligence, 4 year degree (Graduated Magna C U M Laude . Just saying), and analytical eye have afforded me the prowess to speak with some weight. Disregard what I'm about to say at your own peril. But if your interested in the truth, then i'll say, figuratively, "come with me if you want to not die."

The Truth About the Draft
At least 9 teams in the NBA will finish with a record worse than ours, which means we are gonna have to get really lucky in the draft. Klay Thompson at 11 lucky or lottery ball lucky. It's just the way it is. Gobert, Gtime and Faves are only gonna get better and we are gonna get more healthy. I hear Booker from KU can stroke it. Maybe he's the shooter we desperately need. Maybe Stanly Johnson falls and becomes the next Ron Artest but with more of a 3 ball. I can tell you this right now, I'm not sold on Winslow from Duke. Can already tell you Winslow's a bust. Don't get your hopes up for that guy. How deep is this draft anyway? 8 deep? Damn. Snyder needs to be banished to the film room for the rest of the season and we need to bring back Ty. Hell, let Thee Jazz Fan, Hack, or PKM coach the team. They'll lose us more games than even Corbin would.

The big answer to our deficiencies is Mudiay or Russell. We need a star, and they star written all over them. I'm gonna make this very clear right now and don't forget it because it is the truth.

Russell is Steph/The Beard
Mudiay is DRose/Wadeish

Free Agency

This is going to be as short and not sweet as the free agent summer the Jazz are about to have. Our biggest signing is going to be someone like Tayshaun Prince or Ronnie Price

What We Know about the Team.

Some of you are not intelligent enough (Not gonna name names) to understand what is going on with the Jazz this year so I am going to tell you so you can stop throwing those changeups past your buddy at your local bar.

-Gtime is a legit second option. He's not quite a #1 but he's really good and there are really not many legit #1's in the league so it's not a knock on his game.

-Quin Snyder is a top 10 coach in the NBA. What seperates him from the other 20 is his ability to teach, foster relationships, and implement. Also, his attention to detail is elite.

-Favors is a legit 4 on a contending team, as long as you have the right parts of the puzzle around him.

-Kanter is sort of immature

-Favors Gobert front court is the future of the team and, along with being elite defensively, will be better offensively than most would expect.

-Hood is a bust. He's Wes Johnson. He's a shooter who can't shoot.

-Exum is not a bust. But he does not have top 30 player in the NBA potential. What concerns me most about Exum is his inability to shoot off dribble. It's gross to watch. My grandma could shoot better off dribble. Cy could shoot better off dribble. It's bad. Could be elite defensively, could get to the line at an elite level. Maybe he will one day, but he's gotta get the courage to actually drive the damn lane once in a while instead of waving the white flag way out there along the parameter.

-Ingles is gonna be on this team for the next 3-4 years, but will likely be a 10th to 11th guy on the bench

-Gobert will never be as good offensively as Tyson Chandler. Think about it.

Trey is a Backup PG. Don't care what anyone says. Just trust me on this one. He's a backup and after Kanter's departure, he'll become the most hated player among Jazzfanz posters.

Gotta go save the world. Help the goverment with some national security stuff. Champion singles awareness day on twitter (Still not quite over Rachel). Namaste B*tches.

I was reading every word and then suddenly stopped.

For the future well being of this team and fanbase, I hope you are right about Hood. Maybe I am being a big hasty here. All that I can say is that I am concerned about Hood. I'll be the first to admit my error in judgement if he proves me wrong.

A little dramatic. I don't think any of us are counting on Hood being a starter and averaging 16 pts/game. Jazz are looking for guys who can play 13-15 mins behind the starters. They may have found that in Ingles and Millsap. Dl found a backup PF in Booker for $5M/per. If Hood can extend his range, terrific. If not, I'm sure an adequate replacement can be found in free agency, or maybe late in the draft. Jazz already have a pretty full roster and a ton of picks coming up; trades will likely be made.

you called Kentucky, Kansas.. so, no, the phrase I am looking for is, "**** you,"

My dear fellow, we seem to have veered off the civilized path laid out before us by our predecessors. It seems I made an error. Forgive my human nature which demands that I must from time to time, err. Indeed, I would have you err on the side of mercy on my behalf. If you must take the lash to my back, I suppose I will endure it and yet call you a friend. As one poet once wrote, "I see them... Men who press with the ardor of hope and men who are faint with the strife. Yet I turn not away from their smiles and tears both part of an infinite plan. Let me live in a house by the side of the road and be a friend to man."

While they may be acceptable to you, one is still wrong.

Are any of the posters available?

Does that sound right to you?

It sounds right just like people say the Utah Jazz are the best young team in the NBA. So yes, it sounds right. And it has become acceptable.
