I'm sorry, but Kanter is not some bust. If teams are willing to throw big money/assets at guys like Carlos Boozer/Al Jefferson, then they'd be willing to throw some at Kanter. Kanter may suck very badly at a few things, but he has some serious talent at a few things (and we all know what those things are) that make him an extremely valuable piece if put in the right situation.

If you recall, Boozer WAS shopped. The Jazz allowed him to violate the tampering rules by going on a summer tour of various trade destinations. And what offers did Utah receive for him? Zero. The only one that was rumored would have brought us back a bad contract. Teams were just willing to wait on Carlos rather than trade decent assets to get him. Kanter is no Carlos. Except for the fact he's stayed healthy, Enes is not the player Carlos was. Boozer was in his prime, putting up big numbers and still the market was non-existent.

he isn't a bust-- but right now, we have two talented bigs on this roster that will command some serious cap money. We are better off allocating our finite amount of money towards positions where we DON'T have talent. Will Burks pan out? What if he's just a 6th man-- we need to use this money on a starting calibre SG, instead of dropping 12 mill on Kanter.

So you don't think Kanter at $12 million would have got us more in trade than a protected 1st rounder from OKC? It seems to me that it is easier to trade talent you don't need for talent you do, than it is to fill that need through the draft. The only thing that makes sense is that DL has his eye on a particular free agent next summer.

I don't think it was a mistake. People just assumed we traded for Novak as a player, instead of as a means to acquire assets. I never believed he would play, and I said so at the time. I also predicted he would be moved for another 2nd at the deadline. I think DL took on Novak with the idea of flipping him for another 2nd at the deadline.

I would love this to be true, it would show that he really has a specific vision for how he wants things to roll out. Some guys here making it sound like he's some kind of stupid just boggles me, his background speaks for himself.

We have a solid plan for the future, a good coach, and a now tighter roster in terms of working together to become a very competitive team. I believe that DL will be active during this off season. What were you expecting him to say anyway? 'Yes guys I screwed up, now what do I do'

And just because it was an awful trade doesn't mean it was a bad decision. Calling it an awful trade isn't necessarily being negative, it's just reacting to an obvious fact. I think Kanter's value plummeted after publicly demanding a trade and his agent's comments. Obviously if they could have gotten a better deal they would have done it. The only choice was get something back or let him go in free agency.

It's possible we will miss Kanter's offense, but more minutes for Rudy = winning more. Even missing Enes, I just don't see how Utah doesn't win more with more Rudy.

This trade hinges on what we can get from Tibor Pleiß. If he ends up being a solid big for us, then 100% yes. 7'2" Germans with shooting touch go pretty high in drafts generally, unless they have buyout concerns. Tibor had buyout concerns in 2010-- that's why he went with the 1st pick of the 2nd round, from what I can tell.

I'll buy that it wasn't the best trade possible, looks like we agree on seeing it as the only way out though. I didn't see any positive outcome for keeping him tbh.

The Jazz are a worse team today than they were last week. We will be damn lucky if that protected pick we get two or three years down the road ends up being Kanter's equal 6 years from now. The only thing that will make this trade pallatible is if DL signs a great free agent next summer with <sarcasm>all of that freed-up money</sarcasm>.

Sure we are. There's no getting around that. But Kanter was GONE. When a guy doesn't want to be on the team, do you continue to give him 25-30 mins at the expense of others? Do you want him playing next year on a qualifying offer when his ONLY goal is to put up points so he can sign somewhere else for more money? Jazz would waste 1 1/2 seasons and the only person who would benefit is Kanter. That's the exact reason I was so pissed off at Corbin giving so much playing time to Richard Jefferson.

It hurts to know a #3 pick was wasted. But the only way we could have gotten great value for him is if he signed a decent contract this summer (e.g. 4/$48M), we matched and then found a trade partner. That just wasn't going to happen. Ergul made it clear he believes Kanter is a max player.

Ricky Rubio, in his last year at Barça before being traded: 6.5 PPG, 3.5 APG. 31% from field, 22% from three (in 20 games, 17 of which he started in the Euroleague).

Mario Hezonja, potential top 5 draft pick this year, in the Euroleague this year: 5.5 PPG, 2 RPG, 1.4 APG. In the ACB, he's averaging 9PPG but the same numbers otherwise.

I'm curious as to why that is.
