What's new

expected/elated/disappointed

You didn't get the memo? All the rest of us did.
Maybe you ask Jazz board why not you enough important?

Oh my god man! Who is these secretive band if Utah Jazz controllers with nobody to answer to and unlimited fund? Like, Utah Jazz are ****ing invincible today! You can imagine what a board can do without Millers controlling? Holy ****s! It is almost like we should count are chickens now before hatch. Not 20 not 30 not 40 not 50... No more Millers I am so happy right now!!! Thank you my friend!

My god guys I just realize 7 seed team will get sprinkle with Tinkerbells magic dust to become flying one seed champions under magic new Utah Jazz Board!

Bake that mutha ****ing cake hahaha.

Expecting:

The 8th seed. (I'm a believer these PG's can get it done).
The line above this one to look awfully wrong if further injuries occur.
Burke will get moved if things go stale.
Quinn Snyder to do damn good job. (once again)

Elated If:

They get a top-3 draft pick(thru tanking/injuries/lottery magic)
They get the 6th seed.
Dennis Lindsey finds a team that wants to trade sugar for ****.
There's no significant injuries.
They have the best defense in the league(PPG) or very close to it.
Neto's 6'3½"and play's like a poorman's Ricky Rubio.
Cotton severely outplays the other PG's. (That'd mean his game is razor sharp)
Burke's shot selection improves drastically from last season.
Gobert plays like Wilt Chamberlain-lite. (Walt "Clyde" Frazier was the first bring up that comparison on a live broadcast. He used to play vs Wilt[see game 7 of the 1970 finals] It certainly wasn't scripted either.)
Gobert leads the league in blocks.
Gobert has a markedly better season than Hassan Whiteside(Per 36 mins)
Favors can consistently show well vs the Wests top PF's.
Hayward and Hood play like last season.
Hood plays 75 games. Burks too.
Hood thrives running P'n'R.
Burks, Ingles, Lyles, Booker, Burke, Cotton all shoot well from 3.
Lyles contributes much more quality minutes than he's expected to.
Booker scores the most point points of any player all season, in a single game, again.
Burks shows he can handle running Point.
Burks(or any of the rotation wings) show a knack for guard PG's that are bullying/on fire vs. the ones we've got.
Exum heals up quickly and completely.

Disappointed if;

They play like ****. (even more so if the ****ty play doesn't result in a lottery pick)
They get riddled with injuries.
Somehow a bunch of players regress.

Depends on your definition of good.

I say being a top ten team in the league is good.
The jazz could be a top ten team in the league and miss the playoffs due to how good the west is and how bad the east is.

Missing the playoffs doesn't mean we are not good.

massive stretch. The East isn't THAAAAT bad.

Washington will be good. Cleveland will be good. Atlanta will be good. etc

The worst team in the west playoffs might end up being better than every team in east other than the top one or two teams.
The two conferences are very lopsided
Just thought I would throw these power rankings in here
https://m.espn.go.com/nba/rankings?year=2016&week=-1&src=desktop

7 of the top 8 teams are from the west.
I could easily see it ending up like this
1. Warriors
2. Cavs
3. Spurs
4. Clippers
5. Thunder
6. Rockets
7. Grizzlies
8. Pelicans
9. Mavs
10. Jazz
11. Hawks
Jazz finish as a top ten quality team and miss the playoffs.
Missing the playoffs does not mean the jazz are not good.

The conferences appear to be historically lopsided

The west is extremely tough

Expect: playoffs 6th-8th seed.

Elated: 5th or better.

Disappointed: miss playoffs.

A 14th ranked O with Gobert and Favors......simply not possible.

Favors? He was efficient as hell on offense last year and pretty much improved every year.

He said he had a new "move." Maybe it's a killer free throw and dude is gonna shoot like 83% from the line now. If so, he's a killer.

Great post. This could, in fact, be the most lopsided year. I'm not as sold on the Mavs as you are. I think Utah could climb above Dallas. But it will be a dogfight for the 7-10 slots. Last season, 5 teams in the WC won at least 55 games. Portland and Dallas each won 50 or more. OKC and NO tied at 45. I don't see the 8th seed having that number of wins this year.

There have been a few recent seasons when every WC playoff team had at least 50 wins (happened in '09-10 and almost in '13-14). I think that will be the case this year. And I'm not sure Utah gets to 50 wins with their current triumvirate of PG's.

Why would the Mavs be ahead of the Jazz?

Why would the Mavs be ahead of the Jazz?
I'm not saying they would.
Im saying they could in a realistic hypothetical situation.

I disagree. You could make any "realistic hypothetical situation" you want and in 10/10 we finish better than the Mavs. They lost their starting center, their SF isn't even cleared to play yet, their starting SG is coming off an achilles injury, their superstar is aging and wearing down, and their PG is guy who has been declining every year and comes to a team where he is going to have to be the best player for them to win.

I think most people on the forum would disagree with Mavs finishing over the Jazz in most "realistic hypothetical situations".
I think the jazz will finish above the mavs too.
Just saying that the jazz could be a top ten team in the league and miss the playoffs when you consider that 7 of the top 8 teams in the power rankings are from the west.
It would only take one team expected to finish below the jazz to move ahead of them for that scenario to happen.
So it's not far fetched

FYI power rankings aren't 100% based on win/loss total and standings. If they were, they would just be "Standings".

But you've also got to expect a few of those teams ahead of us to not meet expectations or have injury issues.

Very true.

I expect this to be the heir of GOATbear.
I'll be elated if Rodney Hood averages 20 points per game and is a key piece to us going far.

I'll be disappointed if we don't live up to all the hype we built last year.
