Let’s say the Jazz advance to the 2nd round and take Houston 7 games...

Do the Jazz simply do everything they can to resign Favors, match any offer on Exum and basically bring the same team back heading into next season?

I really think the evidence we have available leans in favor of doing just that. Once healthy, the Jazz have been on a pace that would see them contend for one of the top 2 seeds in a very talented Western Conference. Obviously, we’d be bringing this squad back and hoping for the best injury wise, but another year with these guys in Quin’s system, another year of these guys playing together can’t be a bad thing.

Not to mention the fact that Mitchell should come back even better than last year, and that Lindsay has a pretty good track record of drafting good contributors in the 20’s.

I ask all this because I think the consensus with all us Jazz fans is that we are 1 or 2 big moves away from competing for a title. Now I’m starting to wonder if the only thing Utah needs is a stretch of good luck injury wise, the continued (and expected) yearly improvement of Mitchell as he ascends toward his ceiling, some improvement from Exum, and continuing to draft competent players at the positions of need.

That’s the great thing about being a fan. The Utah Jazz need to be the ones focused on beating the Thunder. We get the luxury of sitting on the internet and playing “what if” all damn day.

In my experience, if you are "playing 'What if' all damn day," you can never appreciate the present moment as is.

The Jazz are in the middle of a playoff run that is capping an extraordinary season... and you have already eliminated the Jazz from the postseason and moved into the offseason in your mind.

If you are going to play the 'what if' game, imagine this squad winning the championship because that is what they are playing for this year.

I feel like I’m perfectly capable of enjoying the current run while also thinking about the best way for the Jazz to move forward this offseason but thanks for telling me I can’t. I’ll take that into account the next time I think about something.

Girls girls, you are both pretty.

That said, I think they will lean to bringing the team back as presently constituted. Not necessarily because they wouldn't think they can improve the team, I just think that the opportunities to improve the team this off-season will be slim. That along with our FO propensity to focus on "improve from within" rather than looking to Ainge-level quasi-blow-up-the-squad type moves, means really it is almost a certainty. As the FO said so so many times while they kept beating their heads against the wall that was Ty Corbin, we need to see what we have and what we look like at full strength after we have had a chance to play together for a while.

This **** is ****ing me up.

I am in love with this team, but I lack the faith that it is truly contender caliber. I would love nothing more for this team to overturn every piece of conventional wisdom on what it takes to win at that level, for every possible reason.

But, I can't shake the belief the Jazz still have some way to go with the roster. I hope they (continue to) shake it from me.

the FO has earned my trust.

They will make moves they can that will improve the team. If they don't make a move it's cuz it's not really there, ala let me have your all star for my bag of peanuts, or it doesn't make us better.

I would like them to keep favs, X, extend Ricky and see what is available on the open market. but i will be happy with whatever they do because i think they are smarter than i am on what is best for the team.

lets go Jazz!

The TLDR is I think Aaron Gordon could be The Piece. I think he has another jump in him.

He'd have jack **** to play for for the first time, in addition to the the best development staff, teammates, culture, coach, and fans in the league. He'd be the jack-of-all trades and de facto 2nd option on a team that he could provide spacing for and can reciprocally provide spacing for him as he'd nominally be the 4, but playing alongside one to two others that can seamlessly switch. He'd seamlessly fit into the culture and the philosophy from day one.

Even if he didn't develop much further, his athleticism would amplify the terror that this team brings wherever it goes.

I don't know what it would take, but I somehow feel like this is in the realm of possibility.

This is the no-mans-land that I’ve also felt the Jazz are kinda living. What has swayed me towards going forward with the current roster is the fact that since the team got healthy, they’ve pretty much sustained excellence since January. A hot week or 2 is a streak and can easily be chalked up as a blip. Playing at this level for over half the season once they had most of their peices in place is something that should stand on its own. This team has been on a 60+ win pace for basically 4 months now.

I’m sure Lindsay/Quin will continue to get answers as the playoffs progress but this offseason is going to be a very delicate one for Utah management. To retain Favors, you pretty much have to be all-in that this current team has what it takes. Letting Favors walk requires Lindsay to believe that he can improve a team that’s basically been as good as #1 seed Houston for over half the season. Gonna be interesting.

In 2019-2020, Mitchell will start approaching his peak. Yes, he will be much better than he is now. Of the current rotation, only Ingles will be slowing down.

Outside of someone to fill in for Ingles, we have now what we will need to compete for the championship the season after next, and 2-3 more seasons after that. We don't need to change that, especially with the great team chemistry we seem to have.

We could get Kuzma by agreeing to take Deng's contract from the Lakers. LA is looking to add max free agents this season and Deng's contract is the major obstacle in their way. Kuzma along with DM and Rudy will be a formidable big 3 in the future.

No way the Lakers would give up the brightest spot on their roster for less than the brightest spot on ours.

I didn't intend to offend, but I am not going to apologize for your feelings. I will leave this thread alone since I find it pointless to speculate on the off-season when we do not know how this season is going to end.

Please do not read ANY animosity in my statement. I am simply trying to gracefully bow out of this conversation.

Hey man, no offense taken. I was being serious when I said the next time I think for myself, I’ll definitely run it by you first. You were nice enough to stop by a thread that you found silly and unnecessary and took time out of your day to point out to me that I couldn’t possibly enjoy the current run while throwing out a “what if” question about the future. I really do appreciate the fact that you brought that to my attention before I totally missed out on what’s going on with the Jazz right now.

And please don’t read ANY animosity in my reply. Friends helping friends man, that’s what it should be all about.

I think Kuzma could be had. Think about it: Magic Johnson was hired to return the Lakers back to glory. While I’m sure their value of Kuzma is extremely high, Magic might have an offseason in which Lebron and Paul George approach him about signing with the Lakers. He’s gonna have to shed Deng’s contract to do that and do you think for one second that he’s gonna pass on a James/PG combo because of what Kuzma might develop into some day?
