2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Having watched the series, this is wrong. Favors was fine switching onto Paul/Harden. He's able to get close enough on the perimeter to alter their shot without getting blown by. However, he did not protect the pint as well as Gobert, and Houston went after the paint more when he was in.

Favors is a good perimeter defender despite his size. However, my point was that our coaching staff probably prefers Crowder or O'Neale in those situations.

I see people defending Favors all the time, but the facts are there - he only played 18 minutes per game against Houston in the 2nd round last year and less than 11 minutes per game against Golden State the year before. For whatever the reason or reasons may be, Favors doesn't stay on the floor all that much against great teams who can go small. If we want to win a title, we need to find another PF option Quin trusts in those matchups.

Grizzlies owner met with Conley and Gasol today per Shams... that sounds ominous.

Conley to Utah confirmed.

I really like him... I'm just on that "DM should play mostly at pg train" now. The price is high and I'm not sure how much higher he takes our current ceiling... and his best days may be behind him.

If we got him I'd talk myself into it in a minute I'm sure.

Good article about the best trade deadline deals we ever did.

Seems to me that we are more successful in getting great players via a trade deadline deal (Hayward, Favors, Rubio, Hornacek, Kanter) than we are in free agency (Boozer, Okur, Harpring).
Harpring is our third best FA signing? Yikes. He did have an interesting career jump coming aboard, going from 11.8 PPG to 17.6 PPG. Missed a lot of layups and made some really stupid decisions, though. It’s interesting that it seemed like Marshall’s first year was a lot more impactful but numbers wise not as much. I thought we let Donyell go to clear room for AK, but then we signed Harpring.

The price is high in terms of dollars or what we’d pay in a trade? I’d imagine he’d only get moved to clear salary and get back minor assets.

Little of both. Probably takes a first and we are capped out once we get him. If I knew the warriors were going to break up or if he was younger I'd probably be all in.

Favors, Rubio, Grayson, Bradley and 2 1st rounders for Conley and JJJ. :)

But seriously, to get Conley, we would have to trade Rubio AND Favors. Are we really willing to do that?

Or Rubio, Thabo, Udoh, and Bradley to make Conley work. Are we willing to do that?

This.
I really like Conley and if we got him I would applaud the move..... Yet as it stands right now I would probably pass

I think Conley is better fit than Rubio... he’s a better player on both ends of the court... but I’m not 100% sure we are better with mike if we also lose Favs in the deal. And they likely want a pick... and I think someone would give it up. Indiana seems like a solid candidate... Phoenix maybe but might be too old there. Orlando might give up a pick or something solid.

Don’t get me wrong I’d make a few calls and have a meeting but I’m not sure it’s a homerun.

I really like Conley, but that contract is pretty awful.

If our trade is just Rubio, Thabo, Udoh, and Bradley, it would be really hard to say no to that.

Nah Conley is done. He's injury prone, ageing, and overpaid. Not a good mix.

This isn't fair. He is slightly overpaid when healthy... he misses games so that moves him to being a little more overpaid imo. IF he declines or sustains another serious injury the contract is a millstone for a couple years. I just see more downside than upside.
