Somebody explain the lure of Park City

I just read an article on 10 celebrities who spend time in Utah. I closed the link so I forgot where I saw it, but most of them were people who go to or live in Park City. I find it funny that it's popular among people not from Utah, but as someone who's lived the largest portions of my life here, it's not very often that I've been in Park City. What's the draw aside from being small and secluded? In terms of scenery, it's actually relatively ugly compared lots of other stuff along the Wasatch Front. There's a lot better hiking and scenic things just in the Salt Lake Valley. Perhaps I don't know enough about Park City.

The outlet mall bruh... people love a good deal.
 
It's beautiful and clean and the air is nice and it's close to lots of recreational opportunities and honestly, reputation breeds desire in and of itself i reckon.

I don’t think there is anything else up there... I’m not a fancy person... growing up we went there once a year for outlet shopping.

Did spend time in heber and a small community near deer creek called Wallsburg... it was good times.
 
The scenery, clean air, scenic and properly spaced neighborhoods (nothing like the trailer parks being built in herriman or Lehi), fun restaurants, being close to Mirror Lake, and the weather. Even in August the nights up there are nice and cool. So while Salt Lake, Davis, and Utah Counties are suffering from haze and oven like heat, Park City has blue skies and nice temperatures. This past summer I spent a few days up there and was astonished at how much cooler it felt and how clean the air was. Remember in August when there were major fires near Spanish fork and Payson that blanketed the valleys in nasty smoke? Park City didn’t have any of that.

The valleys aren’t bad. Most of my family still lives in bountiful and the east side of salt lake. The Murdock and provo canyon trails are awesome for walking, running, and cycling in utah county and the bonneville shoreline and Jordan river trails are awesome for the salt lake valley. The air, weather, and overall congestion is getting to me though. The traffic is awful, Especially if you’re commuting between Lehi and midvale. And many of the new neighborhoods being built in alpine, Lehi, Saratoga springs, herriman, south Jordan, are all just overpriced trailer parks. Hell, you couldn’t give me a place in that dumpster fire known as daybreak.

So if you want space, clean air, scenery, live in park city. If you want to live in the valley, you need to find a place on the east side. If you want to live in some overpriced dump without any yard or privacy, move to the west side of the valleys. It’ll take you 20+ mins just to sift through the traffic to get to I-15 where you’ll wait in a parking lot for 45+ mins just to get anywhere.
 
The valleys do have a lot of stuff going for them. Plenty of walking and cycling trails. The canyons. Closer to downtown for jazz games and the theater. Utah has plenty of the movie theaters with recliners too. Good restaurants. Plenty of jobs. But the traffic, overcrowded communities, and poor air quality are almost becoming unbearable imo. What’s the point of all the trails when it hazy and smokey so often? I liked the utah of 1999 more than 2019. Anyone else remember when there was actually some space in between sandy, Draper, and Lehi? For a while the only thing in between the prison and Lehi main was a damn Harts gas station and convenience store. Then micron and thanksgiving point came in. And now it’s just a gigantic cluster

Its a lot of this.

There a lot of huge beautiful homes in Park City. Celebrities probably want to have place where they still feel rich but in a smaller community.
 
The bars are pretty good compared to most places, decent amount of entertainment with PC Live & what not, lots of recreation & skiing opportunities.

Overrated for sure compared to Heber or Kamas/Oakley if you ask me. Traffic is a joke in the mornings.
 
A couple of the sports bars there on the main strip seemed lame. Didn’t go in. I liked No Name Saloon and Grill a lot. Cool vibe. Awesome outdoors heated rustic concrete seating on 2nd floor balcony which was nice since it was like 30 degrees out. Went to another one late morning and afternoon too whose name I can’t remember. It was decent.

I mean it's a whole city of parks. What's not to love?
 
It's a yuppie oasis in the mountains. It's quiet, scenic and relaxing. If you're staying at a high end lodge or hotel like Stein Erickson or the St. Regis, the amenities are pretty rich. Good skiing, good golf, and Sundance made it hip. If you're rich and looking for something to do for a weekend, it's a thing.
 
This thread makes me kind of want to drive up there for the first time in like 8 years. I'll walk down the main street, hit some souvenir shops, see what the old silver mine was like, stop at some place that serves beer. Or, I'll just sit in my basement, alone, drinking beer I made and post on jazzfanz. Yeah, probably just sit in my basement getting drunk on my own beer posting on jazzfanz. What's so ****ing special about Park City? Stupid 1%ers and their fancy cities that I have to pay to park in. That's probably why they named it "Park" City, because of how much it costs to park there.
