What's new

We signed Emmanuel Mudiay

Word is that he chose the Jazz minimum offer over other minimum offers because of the Jazz development program. His market value is low.
I don't get the development program. Who have we developed? Spidy came to us ready minted. Every two way player we have had we've run off. Maybe Royce? Ask Cooley and Cotton about our development program. Ask Neto.

Royce, definitely, and Ingles, but I would also think Neto should count. He's carved out an NBA career for himself.

Umm. Gordon ****ing Hayward? George Hill. You can’t claim a ****ing thing about the 13th pick in the draft. Ingles is an absolutely obvious and stellar example.

Regarding development, I think there is a portion that is “increasing your market value”. If Mudiay plays in a well structured system, and ends up with attractive stats, then other teams see he’s a worthy investment.

Also, Watching the videos in this thread, many of Mudiay’s highlights are tough shots, buzzer beaters, and such. And on a couple of occasions, the announce is saying “Mudiay was 5 for 24 before that shot”. (And Similar). So I think Mudiay market value goes up if he just plays system ball and proves he can be a reasonable asset instead of the “chucker on the crappiest team in the league”.

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Players like Cotton, Cooley, Motum, etc. weren't going to develop into NBA material.

Spidey you can chalk up to personal work ethic. But he's a much better player than he was on Day1. How much credit can you give to Quin and his staff? I know they worked with him on different types of shots. Hayward, Gobert and Ingles are prime examples of guys who really improved their games. Not sure why you said Nyet to Neto. He's a much better player now. O'Neale of course. Derrick Favors.

Maybe the current Jazz org gets credited perception-wise for past successes like Millsap, DeMarre Carroll, Matthews, Boozer, Okur. And remember right after Rubio got traded he said something like he had had more conversations with Quinn then in his previous seasons combined? So it's not only development; it's that the staff WILL invest the time if you invest the effort.

Yes, there have been failures such as Burke and Lyles. And I'm in the camp that thinks our player development IS overstated. Every team tries to develop their players. And if they don't, they're probably one of the perennial lottery teams. But if the perception is there with some GM's and players, let's keep milking it,

Not sure if you are kidding.

Watch Neto tapes from a few years ago. And he’s a 2nd round pick who is backup PG for an NBA playoff team. That is success.

Hayward Gobert Favors Ingles Royce.

Cooley and Cotton did not have NBA potential or physical attributes. Jazz can’t turn coal into diamonds

Ingles was an international star before joining the Jazz? He’s an old man. He didn’t develop in Utah.

man this thread is a gem to read through. Too bad the dude who bet on Exum playing more minutes than Mudiay this season disappeared and deleted his posts.

Gobert. Hayward. Royce. Ingles. Maybe Mudiay. And that’s not even counting Mitchell who apparently came to us “ready minted,” only 12 other teams somehow didn’t see this.
