The pyramids were built by an ancient, antedeluvian civilization that long pre-dates the Egyptians, possibly the founders of Sumer. Similar to other megalythic structures in other parts of the world, they weren't built by today's modern man, but by a larger race of anthropomorphic beings. However, revealing this would raise a lot of questions and open a big can of worms. The pyramids and the sphynx have been submerged in water and show signs of water damage, likely from Noah's flood, which could have been the consequence of a submerged continent (such as Lemuria) or a geographical pole shift. The region was not always a desert.
