2020 NBA trade deadline discussion

Because Utah was cold and was missing shots. Houston's defense was a risk and it paid off for them. Utah just wasnt confident after those first two games were they played terribly. Ingles shot 28% from 3 in that series as well and he had plenty of wide open 3's. Same with Royce who shot 31% on nearly all open 3's. Houston's D would have backfired if Utah just shot how they usually shot on those open 3's. They just got unlucky.
hou wasn't leaving ingles open on purpose, many of his shots were either being set up by ball movements or simply heavily guarded. rubio shot horribly because of who he was. their cases serve as no excuse to niang's underwhelming shooting in that playoffs series.

if he really was a legit knockdown shooter like you suggested, why didn't he play like one?

you can cite his g-league or college numbers all you want, but as a jazz fan, i only care about his performance when it really matters. how hard is this for you to understand?

You are a ****ing moron who has no recollection of the Houston series.

Ingles had 4 WIDE OPEN attempts per game in that series and shot 20%. He had 1.4 "open" 3's a game and made 57% of those. He shot .4 contested 3's a game and made none.

Niang had 2 wide open 3's a game and made 30% of them. He had .4 open 3's a game and made 50% of them.

Sometimes players just have bad series.

And yes, games players play in matter. It's why teams pay people money to go and scout these games. It's like they are indicators or something.

gosh, let me repeat myself again.

i said, either being set up by teammates or heavily guarded. what part of "being set up by teammates" do you not understand?

there's a distinct difference between being set up by your teammates for wide open shots and being left open by opponents intentionally, even though they are both "wide open" shots on stats book.

that is why i showed you gifs and game clips, instead of pure stats.

when you are being set open by your teammates screens or cross court passes, there will usually be a defender chasing after you so you have to heave within a second before they close in on you. so even though those shots are considered wide open, players rarely have the time to get into their most natural shooting position before the ball gets released. so making those are way tougher than simple practice shots both mentally and physically. that is the one thing that distinguishes nba shooting from college or g-league shooting because you are challenged at a whole new level

here you see ingles heaving up a "wide open" shot with his body completely off balance after a couple of dribbles and if he waited to square his body, nene would've go around favor's screen to contest his shot then the "wide open" opportunity is gone.

here's another quick heave off of rudy's screen and you see ingles' body simply isn't perfectly square with his legs kicking out when he's shooting because he had too little time to adjust to his normal body position

that's why shooters like korver and redick are so valuable in this league because they can catch and release in no time while doing so without having to square their body.

if you look up their career stats, i bet the majority of their shots are considered "wide open" but it is not because their opponents just wanna leave them open, but because they are being set up by their teammates and find shot opportunities that are otherwise not available to other players.

anyways, when i'm trying to say is ingles did shoot terribly in that rockets series but he gets a pass because he had solid nba shooting records to back him up. niang did not. so even though both ingles and niang failed to show up in that series. i was more critical of niang because he was yet to establish his name as a shooter in the nba.

I feel like we still need a defensive 4 who can also play 5. We don't need a lot out of this player. Just sound on ball and off ball defense for like 15 minutes a game when called upon. Niang, Bradley, Bogdanovic have all shown deficiencies on defense that could be exploited in certain matchups come playoff time. And we need Royce to guard the best opposing perimeter player. Another strong paint defender so Rudy doesn't have to be relied upon for everything defensively down low is the only piece we lack.

Some second round picks moving around in this one.

Something of this nature seems feasible... Porty might want to send Mario though cuz he has a player option for next year at a small number but has shown he’s not really an nba player... so it’s kinda bad money. They may only send like a mediocre second... we could slap a couple seconds in the deal.

The issue is just Phoenix hasn’t quite fallen far enough... their GM likely won’t do a tear down trade and the coach seems to see how valuable Baynes is because he is starting him over Ayton. What could happen is a minor rift between ownership/GM and the coach where they say that Monty needs to make a change... if he resists then you force his hand by trading Baynes. What I’d call a Sacramento Kings “I am my own worst enemy” type of scenario. Otherwise I think everyone there has too much win now pressure to move Baynes... expiring or not.

I do think part of our issue is we will need to pay the premium to get a more established guy... I don't think we'd trade for a guy like Christian Wood that is seen as more of a developing player. I think it has to be a clear upgrade over Davis/Bradley. So Baynes is definitely a contender, but those guys will get more when/if they become available.

I poo poo'd @infection on Bismack Biyombo (if he was bought out)… I would actually go for that... he is an effective rim protector... his hands and turnover would drive me crazy.

I think TB has improved, but I don't think Tony is a guy you want to have in the rotation in the playoffs. I think Morgan could develop into that small ball center that would be better in matchups with the LA teams and the Rockets. Niang may be the other guy that can't play in the playoffs, but his shooting might be good enough he can hang. The second unit is different now that JC is using so many of those possessions.

Another potential buyout guy might be Nene... but there is a very good chance he is completely washed.

We honestly just need 10 minutes of solid D from a backup guy. Gobert can go 36 in the playoffs and someone else can get spot/blowout minutes. I see a lot of dudes that can give us 10 minutes, many of which we’ve named. I’d like to see Biyombo bought out, but that usually happens with established guys looking to win... so it’s likely neither side has a buyout on their radar. And honestly, we’re probably the only contending team that could use him (off the top of my head).

Guys who can give a good 10 minutes repeated for those in the back:

1. Noah.
2. Bogut.
3. Udoh.
4. Willie Reed.

I actually think TB is better than those guys in the regular season... but in the playoffs I think he'd be in so far over his head and teams would absolutely be licking their chops when he's in the games. Noah is the most intriguing to me... I wonder if he's healthy right now.

A buyout... a small trade when a team drops out of playoff contention... a vet FA should be doable. No idea how the front office feels about this though.

Can Bogut even run?
He's playing on the best team in the Australian league. He looked like he leaned out a bit last year. I think he'd still be effective in our system and would provide some resistance around the rim.

Really the only things I’d want are another backup for Rudy that’s better than Davis, and a PF who can handle Lebron/Davis well enough, pass, pick and roll. I like Faried, don’t think Bertens, Morris, baynes, etc are available to us.
