Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Been reading a lot of these trade rumors that are posted up by these barf sites. I entertain myself with them even though I find most of them to be one sided and comical. They do however often use the players that are on the trade market.

I’ve also been reading a lot in the last couple of days that makes it seem to me the jazz may want to bring back both of their stars next year.

I’ve seen trades in the rumor mill involving NO and the jazz sending us graham, Nance, and a pick for Mike. Also saw another with Mike and a 1st to Indy for Brogdon. Then I thought about the deadline and the potential Igor and a 1st to Detroit who is rebuilding and wants picks for Grant.

My idea takes these ideas with a couple tweaks.

Utah Out: Clarkson
Utah In: Graham (necessary to get pick)/1st rnd

Utah Out: Conley/UT ‘26 1st
Utah In: Brogdon

Utah Out: Hernangomez/NAW (Package Joe)/Royce/NO 1st
Utah In: Grant

This gives New Orleans an upgrade for a 1st rnd pick, it gives Indy a 1st rnd pick and a shorter contract, it gives Detroit a young player, an expiring contract and a 1st rnd pick.

This gives the jazz the size at point guard that they have needed and the elusive defensive wing we sorely have needed.

Brogdon
Mitchell
Bogie
Grant
Gobert

the thing with trade ideas is that you have to consider why the other team wants to do the trade. i don't think you did that here

I have mentioned that deal multiple times. It is best case scenario. Some people have mentioned Siakam which I would be fine with too but doubt it happens.
I think asking for Siakim or Barnes is more than what Toronto wants to do. They could send Anunoby and Gary Trent and continue on with Rudy.

I'm weary of Anunoby. In theory he's the player every team needs, especially us, but he's always injured and I think his defense has been a little overrated in the past. I'd be very weary of trading with Masai....but then again he almost made the colossal mistake of trading Lowry to the Knicks.

As much as I'd hate to help the Warriors, I'd try to swing OG for Kuminga.

Toronto doesn't have a large French-speaking population.
depends on how one defines large. in comparison to montreal, it does not have a large french speaking population. but about 10% of the city is bilingual with french as being one of the languages spoken - that's more than nearly every city in the world in which french isn't the primary language.

Fair enough--9% of the population claiming the ability to carry a conversation in French is notable (2016 census). I suspect a lot of those folks are not particularly fluent.

Only 49k (1.8%) report French as being one of their mother tongues and 30k (1.1%) report French as the language spoken most commonly at home. In comparison, Tagalog 83k/43k, Tamil 57k/42k, Farsi 49k/33k, Italian 63k/27k, Portuguese 59k/33k, Spanish 73k/42k, Cantonese 115k/83k, and Mandarin 111k/88k are spoken more in Toronto (and these are only identified in census tables where no other answer is given).

So can you find a person to speak French with? Yes. Are there more French speakers in Toronto than in other (non-French) North American cities? Yes. Is French a language you commonly hear spoken when wandering around the city? Not particularly.

Whatever we do we can't give up any more of our future picks. No matter what type of retooling we try, it's far more likely that we are delaying a rebuild vs extending a championship window.
1000% That would present a huge hinderance to any rebuild... unless it was top 14 protected and turns into second rounders.

I think we are more likely to acquire some picks than give them out... but Locke threw out some scenarios where we give out picks and get back picks later when we rebuild. Would make my stomach turn to do that... that is what leads to 10 year rebuilds.

It would really take an enormous haul for the Jazz to trade Donovan this offseason -- like top-3 pick, 2 unprotected 1sts, and 2 pick swaps.
Or him saying I want out and I won't be quiet about it. Still likely would require a haul.

I just think its hilarious that Ryan thinks having Donovan for All-star weekend is going to be amazing... when its likely just going to be a whole lot of "when does Donovan ask out?" stories.

The Miami package would be what... Herro and a couple firsts (they owe a first that limits how many they can give). Not a big fan... would hope to spin Herro off and get some more picks if that's what it was.

If the Jazz decided to trade Don and keep Rudy and build around him, Jimmy Butler would make a lot of sense. I have no idea if Miami would be interested in a Mitchell/Butler swap though.

Not touching that contract... if he was 29 or if he wasn't nuts then maybe... He's owed like 170M over 4 years starting next year.

They would jump on that deal.

My guess is Miami and how they progress the rest of this postseason is going to be critical to see how much they want to blow it up. My guess is they don't want to give up Herro, but they have to know that we don't want Lowry and that their pick library isn't great.

And if you're the Hawks, you honestly don't have a lot to offer us. I don't want Collins or Capela's contracts. Some draft picks aren't awful, but I just don't really think we can get much back in value.

The only way Don leaves this offseason is if they get a godfather offer from the Knicks or another team. I'm also inclined to think that New Orleans might decide to push their chips to the middle and give us a haul and be willing to go with a core of Ingram, Mitchell, McCollum and Zion.

Look Ujiri turned Cold Matthew into a very solid second rounder... if yall think we gonna do well in a trade with Toronto i got news for you.

My guess is OG and cap fodder... maybe a pick... OG and Trent is about as solid as you can get for our needs. I'm hesitant to deal with Toronto.
The guy who gave Toronto a pick for Cold Matthew is no longer in business. I mean it's the same guy who got fleeced by Pelicans and Knicks so not sure how much Ujiri can take credit for that
