We should not have traded NAW

A bunch of us felt this way when the news came out, and now it’s just very clear.

THT is garbage, and every Wolves fan is in hysterics re: the value NAW is bringing to their team.

Really happy for them and him, but I’m not sure why our choice for third guard behind Clarkson and Sexton is ****ing THT.

I agree and I think this is where we blundered. It was the bad value move of that trade. He was a premium paid for DLo on behalf of the Lakers. Pelinka should have compensated us for sweetening that deal for Minny.

NAW was one of the guys bound to get increased opportunity after Conley and Beasley were gone and he was gonna be RFA next summer so there was little to no risk in keeping him.

I can’t help but wonder if we could have given them THT instead though..
Yeah I dont know if the numbers would have matched with him... but I was always more impressed by NAW as a future prospect even if THT has gotten more opportunity so Hardy somehow likes him more.

Agreed, which is one of the more surprising developments of this season based on how I felt about him at the start of the season. He played well enough for long enough that I considered him a rotation quality NBA player.

5 years from now we will either come to fruition with the genius behind this trade for how it helped us build a contender, or we will remember it as the worst trade Ainge has ever made.

I love THT more than anyone, but no one wants him for the purposes of winning.

I think he has shown enough this year that you want him to opt in. Maybe try to get him to work with staff in the off-season on some things. His spot up shot becomes respectable and you fix his foot-work/finishing on his drives and you have a really interesting player.

There's no way the Jazz traded for THT with the thought that he would be some amazing addition in year 1. I'm sure they viewed him as a multi year development project. If he still sucks next year and you are really trying to win, you don't play him and he becomes a nice salary matcher in trades.

I highly doubt the Jazz are going to use all their available cap space this upcoming off season. I'm guessing they try to nab one of the 2nd tier guys like a Kuzma/Grant then sign 1 or 2 playera to short term deals. The cap that THT is taking up will not be missed.

I do think Hardy was a bit weird with NAW, but I also get it because NAW was a pretty uninspiring player IMO. We will probably miss him a bit as I think he will be a solid end of rotation guy for a handful of years, but the Lakers pick is more valuable and having/not having NAW won't be the difference in a successful team.
