Black or Wallace?

Which point guard would rather have with the 9th pick?

This.

People get all in their feelings about some of these guys. Wallace is fine in the 10-14 range but I don't think he's a top 9 talent in this draft. I think we see a dropoff once you get to about 10. Some say Kentucky guards always over produce their draft slot but that wasn't the case with Ty Ty last season. Yes they are totally different prospects.
He was the 29th pick on the Houston Rockets jackass. The fact that he played at all is him outplaying his draft position already. Let's see what he does in the future before calling that one eh?

He also averaged 23-6-5 in the G-League.

**** me, since when does spacing have no impact on 3PT%?
?

“bad spacing” usually refers to when a defense can pack the paint with impunity because they don’t fear the offense’s shooting, effectively leaving players to shoot open threes.

So if “bad spacing” effects Black’s ability to shoot threes, it is that he is shooting (probably far) easier shots and still shooting fewer of them and connecting on a smaller percentage. There is also the matter of just watching them shoot.

It can but for one specific player it doesn't necessarily. I mean if he was trying to get lots of 3 point looks and couldn't because he was the only one the defense had to worry about on the outside then sure. But in this case I think the lack of spacing might have actually helped his percentage if the defense was all sagging off into the pain due to poor floor spacing. That would indicate that he was getting lots of open looks from three.

Does the fact that their lengths are basically the same change anyone's vote?

Black only has 1.5'' on Cason with vertical reach, and Cason is an inch longer in wingspan. Their "functional" length is basically equal. Head height is a great luxury for PG's to see over the defense, but so is being low to the ground while still having the length/reach of someone taller.

I’m honestly kinda stoked with how the measurements worked out. Seems like Cason might slip and someone’s gonna laugh their *** to the bank.

Hollinger did bring up the idea that Cason's health might be an ongoing issue. Not sure if there is any backing to it, but it does spook me if it is indeed a thing.

I go for Wallace. He's a menace on defense and his shot is becoming way more reliable and should improve too. I think he has the higher ceiling and can be an immediate difference maker on the defensive end.

Cason Wallace is Jrue Holiday. It is a great comp. Their freshman year stats are eerily similar and their measurements are basically the same.

Jrue is .75 inches taller, but has a shorter wingspan (by 1.5 inches) and standing reach (by .5 inches) in similar measure. Jrue is all of 4.something pounds heavier.

There are other players in this range that are worthy (and I would gleefully take Hendricks and certainly Whitmore above him) and I will be fine with Black if it comes down to it, but I am more than fine if it’s Wallace at 9.

it's the easiest and most sensible comparison in draft history. wallace is basically jrue 15 years later. physical profile is identical and they have the same strengths and concerns. it doesn't mean of course that wallace will be as good as jrue, but as prospects they are about as similar as we'll ever see.

Wallace is a lot more intriguing to me. He does look like a young Jrue out there.

Based off the game I watched my nickname for Black is Hollow Man. When his team has the ball he is invisible and is instead out perving on Hearsky's mom.

I think Jrue is a fine, high outcome for Wallace. He is of the same mold. I would say his median is probably more like Deanthony Melton though.

I like blacks offensive ceiling, however Wallace may be a more valuable asset to our team with that defensive prowess. If he’s a capable driver and decent shooter

Just gonna put it out there, Wallace is more boring to watch and I am definitely more "intrigued" by Black. Not a great drafting strategy, but I would be excited to watch Black play every game and see if he can figure it out.
