What's new

2024 NBA Free Agency Thread

Patrick Williams got 90 million over 5 years.

Bulls got pretty lucky there. It might end up being an overpay, but 16 million isn't even starter money with the new salaries. If he progresses at all and stays healthy it's an absolute steal.

Barely above the mid level and it might be under later on. Really good deal for them. They have to move Lavine/Ball or they lose Derozan now.

Or they could be a tax team but that ain’t happening.

Bobby Marks saying Lavine has no market and Chicago has been trying to attach a 1st rounder in order to dump him. Would you take that offer?

They kinda don’t have them to trade? I guess they can trade some squirrely ones that have kinda labyrinthine contingencies but I don’t even know what we’re even talking about at that point.

There’s also Buzelis.

They either trade Lavine/Lonzo, lose Derozan, or pay the tax. They ain’t paying the tax.

So is the main issue salary this year or future years?

It is an issue this year, but will also continue be an ongoing issue. Right now they have about $30M in space to the first apron, so I suppose they could give the rest of that to Derozan....but earlier it was expected that he would get $40M a year.

They could potentially sign and trade Derozan as well.

I’m assuming the trade would be Collins for Lavine. Can’t do JCx2 because they’d be in the same cap situation this summer. It depends on what else we do….but I’d also try to eat Lonzo’s contract instead.
Was coming back to make this exact point.

Let’s just absorb Lonzo for their protected Portland pick and call it an off-season.

Felt locked in after the Bridges trade, curious to see whether CLE moves Garland or Allen this off-season and what the return in

I think Allen could be moved…but I think they will hold onto Garland. Even though Mitchell just signed, I have a feeling he might not want to spend the rest of his career there. Mitchell got his money, CLE secured their future just in case he wants out at some point.

I also think it may have been like the PG OKC extension. Sign now and we will move you if you want later. I also wonder if his knee has him a little nervous.

IMO, our best hope in Lavine trade is if SAC is actually interested. They send one of Barnes/Huerter to CHI, then they send the other to us and we take the first from CHI as well. SAC can’t trade with CHI straight up because they will leave them in the same financial situation after salary matching.

The problem with these kind of deals is that DET can undercut us. They have much more space….so you’re probably not going to get a ton from salary dump type trades.

They will keep Allen and trade Garland for assets less redundant to what Mitchell brings.

That porty pick gonna turn into seconds… I need more. Or Clarkson gets added in the deal maybe.

I think Derozan is gone… so the money problem isn’t really an issue this year.

As long as Clarkson is gone the off season will be successful. He was that bad and now we have another mouth to feed.

The question is… is JC officially a negative asset now?

Negative asset needs to be removed from the nba lexicon. I don’t think he’s a big liability… I think his value is close to neutral.
