"League sources said Markkanen’s deal is projected to be worth upwards of $200 million over five years"

If the average salary is just over $40 million, this has the potential to be a very good deal for us. If it turns out to be a flat $42 million a year, that woukld only be 22,2% of the estimated cap in 2027-2028 and 20% in 2028-2029.
That would be a homerun. It would be a grand slam if the last year wasn't a player option but I would be shocked if it isn't.

Don't get the Ingram buzz whatsoever. I ain't trying to make the play-in or something now.

This was the move, Lauri is bought in on whatever the plan is. Now it's time to play the young guys, trade the JC's, and not be very good.

Lauri can get his efficient 25+PPG a night, and take plenty of nights off. Go to lots of hockey games. Development year. Ingram (or any kind of move like that) would make no sense to me.
I'm not really with the BI plan. I think it could happen even though it runs against what I think we should do simply because his market is so low. If we want BI the best plan is to acquire him at the deadline when maybe the tank is already somewhat solid and manage his minutes or just to try and sign him in FA next year. NO is really in a bind there. So Danny being the value hunter he is would have to fight off his nature to not bite if the price is like John Collins and our worst first next year.

NO has a rotation issue - no center, lots of wings that want major PT.
NO has a money issue - need to cut salary this year to be under the tax. Also long term they really don't want much salary for next year either. So signing BI puts a major kink in their plans.

They decided to move a year late than a year early and it will cost them in this deal.

I think we are more likely to do a salary dump type move than a BI move but I'd say its on the table.

I think the player option days should be dead by now lol.

Ingram makes sense next summer if he hits the market. Get the high draft pick and then take a swing at Ingram. If you can snag him then great but if not you just keep building around our young core.

I think the argument for Ingram is if you’re sending Collins, Kessler, and no picks that that actually makes the Jazz worse so I could theoretically get behind it (cuz it also gets them off Collins’ money).

A flat deal at this year’s current max is the dream. I’m kinda hoping they did what @Saint Cy of JFC was talking about and gave him a sweeter offer to sign today than later, but if Lauri is down to sit a bunch of games in tank-battles then I’m happy with that.

Only problem with that is the Jazz don’t have real cap space next year with Collins on the books.

I don't believe there will be a sweeter offer than what the jazz will end up giving him. My guess is that it is a full max with a player option for his final year.

I doubt very much that he gets an option.

We can make it happen though. Sign and trade or find a home for Collins... even if you send a pick it can be done.

Good stuff. Now trade JCx2 and give all the minutes to Keyonte, Kessler, Hendricks, Cody Williams, Flip and Collier ... and Sensabaugh ... if you really want to tank hard.

I think everyone has this idea that this would happen after Lauri, but I don't think it's actually going to happen. We might trade Kessler/Sexton and there are not many vets on this roster, but JC x2 cannot be traded unless you want to give up picks (Collins might be good in an Ingram deal).

Tankers will have to reconcile with the fact that Lauri on the Jazz likely means no hard tanking. Having a really good player in his prime is completely at odds with tanking.

Don't recall seeing the word "callow" in a sports story before. Wonder if that was from Shams, Slater, or @Tony Jones?
T.S.: Whoa, she calls you callow in here.
Brodie: You say that like it's bad.
T.S.: Well, it means frightened and weak-willed.
Brodie: Really? ****, that was the only part of the letter that I thought was complimentary.
