What's new

Entire Jazz Team is in Utah

I really hope I'm wrong and Sexton will be here long-term.

Sexton could bring passion to a kids rec league, such an incredible competitor. Really hope we find a way to include him in a long-term winning team

Why would Woj end up in Provo the week he retires from ESPN lol

Again, how do you know that? Because they say so?

What makes you think that most of NBA players are not doing it simply because of all the money they can get? Especially the forwards and bigs. If you are 6'7" or taller and have a decent athleticism you are heavily pushed since the middle school/early high school to become an NBA player and make a bank - regardless of their interests and passions. The NBA history is riddled with so many examples of players like Amaechi, Bynum or Ayton who simply could not keep putting effort into basketball after they made their first millions - and it cost the a lot of money. And I am sure there are way, way more basketball players who manage to stick to the job routine despite disliking the job throughout their careers.
Eh, it's like any other job and workplace. Some people care and put forth their best effort nearly all the time. Some are happy to have a job and, in this case, recognize they are lucky to be where they are and so they do the job for the joy of it. Others are there for the paycheck and just don't give much of a ****. Still others reach a point where they actively dislike it and can't wait to move on. I'd wager the NBA has a higher share of people who care and do their very best as much as they can than other basic jobs. I'd wager the percentage that fall into the last category is pretty small, way smaller than most workplaces. By and large I think most are generally happy they get to play basketball and make a ****-ton of money to do so.

I thought it was being fat that prevented someone from having a good jump shot? :D
Well, it becomes more of a hop-shot. Or a shrug-shot maybe.

I know NBA players arent supposed to be supper buff, but this is still Walker's body after 2 off-seasons of a being a pro?

He may have slimmed down a tad which... okay? But yeah at this point I don't need abs or huge biceps but chest and shoulders should be much more build imo. It wouldn't be an issue if physicality and strength weren't issues on the court.

Someone posted Jokic who is also kinda doughy still but strong like bull so who cares what it looks like.

Yeah, I can't think of a single elite tier rim runner who has a doughboy body. Probably the archetype that most needs to be physically impressive.

I would just straight up ban anyone who uses Jokic or Luka as a body type reference. Those guys are such weird exceptions.

And both guys have elite strength for the position. For Walker he looks skinny/soft for a big. There are obviously guys like Chet or other guys who are skinny and effective but it just seems like Walker is focused on the wrong things imo. If he has increased strength or speed and it just doesn't show in photos that's fine. Doesn't have to be the hulk but I think his frame looks like it could support some added muscle.

Meh, he doesn't look ideal....but I don't think he looks that bad. Being shredded =/= better performance. Improvement between the ears is what matters most for Kessler.

Sure, but go look at any big you'd consider to be a rim runner and look at their bodies compared to Kessler.

Ehh….I think a lot of them would be closer than you would think. And I bet some of the skinny guys who have the same muscle mass w/less body fat would actually be better with more weight.

Without knowing too much about his body and how he performs at different body fat levels I’m mostly neutral on what I see. Kessler has always been a ground bound player and I don’t think he’d necessarily be a better player if he was much leaner and lighter. His value is alway going to be being big and playing big so I don’t mind being on the heavier side versus leaner.

When I see his struggles, it’s mostly see a guy who’s soft and gets pushed around. And in that case I’d rather see excess lbs than less lbs. But what’s really got to change is his mentality and approach towards the game.

free gym time with professional trainers AND time to hang with their teammates? sign me up. basketball is what they do, it's who they are. i agree that it wouldn't look good to be the last guy who shows up for pre camp, which is kind of unfortunate, but on the other hand, they are All being watched by coaches, managers, and even their teammates and if they want to maintain respect from all of these people, you show up to do the thing that, again, they love to do anyway. i think the truth is somewhere in the middle, which means that everyone is right at least to some degree.
