Jazz are shopping Collins and Clarkson at a minimum. Not sure about Mills playing though.
I dont think thats the case. We are probably open to trading any of the vets, but I dont think Hardy is doing any window dressing for Danny.

Mills and Eubanks wouldnt be playing over the kids if it was just that. Its probably about them having the job until the kids prove they are worthy of replacing them.

Hardy is definitely trying to send a message to the young guys. If you want to play you have to earn it

Yeah that seems to be his way of doing this. In his first year he did this with Kessler and Ochai, and last year only Keyonte got "free minutes" but its easy to claim there was no one qualified to actually run the point ahead of him.

I watched the first half last night and decided to not watch the replay of the second half this morning. I'm finding myself not interested in watching the parts of the games that I missed this year.

Hardy playing Eubanks and Mills over Flip and Collier is his first big miss of the season.

For Eubanks, my only explanation is that they liked what they saw in Chicago with Collins at the 4 and wanted to get more looks at that. The only problem with that thinking is Chicago is terrible.

For Mills, I suppose they want to give Collier some time after returning from injury before throwing him out there. I thought for sure after pre-season that Collier would be getting the backup pg minutes, so maybe that's still true.

I'm on the fence on Juzang over Brice. Juzang is still young, so it's not like playing a vet over a young guy. Juzang also helps a ton with spacing, which makes everyone better. On the other hand we need to know what we have in Brice and give him time to work through his mistakes.

The good news is that there is a lot of season to go so if the record gets bad enough over the next month then there will be a clear mandate from the front office to stop messing around and give all these youngsters minutes over vets with no future hear.

Should have put Brice in earlier. By the time he retires Brice is gonna have the nickname 'Doctor Fade-Away' and he's going to make Bronny James cry at least three times. BOOK IT!

I am not surprised even a tiny bit.

Should be able to play them both imo.
On second thought the only way to really give them both a good amount of minutes is to cut back in Clarkson and Sexton minutes a bunch and neither of those guys are playing a lot as it is and that would be hard to do to those guys.

Really hardy has done pretty good with minutes and rotations for the tank and youth development. Only misses are eubanks and mills

Obviously minutes are “earned” in settings we can’t see, training camp, practice etc. But it is frustrating to see Sens, Flip, and Collier being put in the doghouse when they’ve all showed a little promise. It gives impression that Hardy has favorites, and he should of course. If he believes in one player over the other he should give them more leeway. But it sucks to see all of these guys be on the outside.

The two guys that Hardy/FO believe in unconditionally are Key and Cody. It doesn’t not matter how much they suck, they will get force fed minutes and responsibility. I’m not here to say they will suck forever, but maybe Hardy should apply a more moderate touch to have and have nots. I think Key and Cody could use some more tough love and “earn it” more than they have. OTOH, I think the other young guys deserve a little more leeway than they’ve received.

It’s too early to make such harsh distinctions between the players.

So... I'm going to just come out and say it... Juzang is better than Brice. Juzang over Brice makes some sense right now for a couple reasons.

1- Johnny has never missed a three pointer ever.
2- His contract and type of player he is may legitimately net you a first if he continues to show what he does. I don't think the defense is horrific and the shooting plus cutting and attacking close outs is something that fits well on 30 teams. The price and length of the contract in this tight CBA environment should be appealing to contenders OR we may just keep him long-term.
3- Brice probably needs to play a little more like Cody. Especially on this team of dribble happy combo guards.

Eubanks... maybe he improves his trade value a smidge and nets you like a 2nd rounder... whoopty freaking doo.

Mills... fine play him last night since Collier has just now been made available but he is the Udonis Haslem of this roster. Just give over the minutes.

With both Mills and Eubanks it was the same "they've earned it" culture bull ****. With both of those guys they got more money than they would have elsewhere, so as John Hamm said with regard appreciation "that's what the money is for".

It's hard for me to envision Hardy as the grumpy "earn it" guy when it applies so differently to different players. I feel like I come off as a Cody/Key hater, but truthfully I am just left uneasy by the way they are treated. Clearly Hardy believes it is a good for them to receive playing time for the sake of giving them playing time. It is hard to say that their playing time and roles have been earned. I don't expect every young guy to be treated the same, obviously you are going to view some different than others. But there shouldn't be this massive gap in preferential treatment. Key and Cody are at a place where nothing they can do will take away their playing time. OTOH, a guy like Flip played well and at the same time had no opportunity to keep his minutes.

I still think the biggest impact of this is simply that it is incredibly boring to watch. It probably won't have a huge impact on the way each player develops, but it's truly painful to watch our vets get blown out. Having said that, I do think it brings Hardy's player evaluation into question. Like I said, some of the stuff just makes me feel uneasy.
